City residents continue not to care two hoots about the traffic rules and regulations. Nothing else can explain the challaning of 376 motorists for various offences during a 36-hour-long drive launched by the Chandigarh police.

No decision yet on bringing more villages under MC
Chandigarh, October 13
While the four villages under the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation still crying foul over the lack of basic amenities, serious deliberations are being held in official circles to include another 14 villages in the civic body. There is an indication that four peripheral villages, which do not fit in to the urban character of the city, would not be included within the limits of the civic body.

AGM of ex-servicemen league on October 22

The annual general body meeting of the Indian Ex-Services League, UT, will be held on October 22 at 11 a.m. at Dr Ambedkar Bhawan, Sector 37. In a notice given under Rule 29 of the Rules and Regulations of the IESL, Major Prem Singh (retd), general secretary, IESL, has requested all members to attend the meeting.

Residents of Phase III-A blocked traffic at a chowk in protest against the hike in water and sewerage charges here this evening. Residents had earlier gathered in a park in front of the house of the municipal councillor of the area, Mr Manjit Singh Sethi.

Rs 3.5 lakh stolen from parked car
Mohali, October 13
A sum of Rs 3.5 lakh was stolen from a car parked in the Phase VII market here today. The police, however, said Rs 1 lakh had been taken away from the vehicle. According to information, Mr Harjit Singh Bhullar, a BJP leader, had parked his car outside a sweet shop in the area.

Gold chain snatched

Two pedestrians snatched a gold chain from a woman in Sector 26. Mr Bachan Lal of Sector 26 Grain Market reported to the police that two unidentified pedestrians snatched a gold chain of his wife near the Sector 26 Satsang Bhavan yesterday. A case has been registered.

Murder case: release of two sought
Mohali, October 13
A delegation of residents of Chajju Majra and Khuni Majra villages, near here, today met the SDM, Kharar, demanding the release of two persons, arrested by the police in connection with the murder of three persons of a family in Chajju Majra in early August this year.

Lawyer convicted, released on probation
Chandigarh October 13
Over 11 years after Vijay Sharma, an advocate of the District Courts, created ruckus in a courtroom, a local court today convicted and released him on probation. The Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM), Ms Neerja Kulwant Kalson, released Vijay Sharma on probation after his counsel, Mr NS Minhas, promised that he would not indulge in any such activity for the next one year.

Passionate expressions in art

It is all about personal influences and reflections that find passionate expressions in art. Two distinct styles echoing with parallel experiences and individual impressions of thoughts and feelings is what artist couple Ram Kumar and Bharati Sharma’s work demonstrate.
Showing at the IndusInd Art Gallery till October 19, the works of the two artists are mingled on the walls but the medium remains the same.

City advocates win cricket tournament
Chandigarh, October 13
Punjab and Haryana High Court Lawyers (CLSA Yellow) today thrashed Rajasthan High Court Lawyers by seven wickets to lift the All-India Inter-High Court Lawyers Cricket Tournament at the Sector 16 Cricket Stadium here. The tournament was organised by the Chandigarh Lawyers Sports Association as part of the ongoing celebrations of the golden jubilee of the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

Dungarpur Dungarpur welcomes Dravid as skipper

Terming the decision of handing over the captaincy of Indian cricket team to Rahul Dravid a step in right direction, former BCCI president Raj Singh Dungarpur congratulated the selection panel for taking the bold decision here today.
