Dungarpur welcomes Dravid as skipper
Mohali, October 13 Commenting immediately after the announcement by BCCI secretary S K Nair, Mr Dungarpur said, “The selectors have taken a good decision by giving the responsibility to Dravid for two consecutive series. He would also feel relieved. Also, he will likely be concentrating more on the game knowing that he was no more a seasonal captain, but was here to stay at least for 12 one-day matches.” Dravid has replaced Ganguly as the captain for the forthcoming one-day series against Sri Lanka and South Africa. Ganguly has been advised by doctors to rest for 10 days because of elbow pain. Mr Dungarpur was all praise for Dravid as he termed him a good thinker, excellent strategist, non-controversial, clean cricketer and technically-sound batsman. “Now I am sure of the bright future of the team as it has the right leader,” Mr Dungarpur said. Coming down heavily on Ganguly, he advised that the former captain should quit from Test cricket as he was not fit for the same. He also accused Ganguly of making excuses to avoid playing on green-top pitches. However, Mr Dungarpur termed him a good striker of one-day matches. “He should be there in the squad for one-day matches provided he fulfills the fitness conditions,” viewed Mr
Dungarpur. When asked about the chances of compromise with Dalmiya group in the coming elections of the BCCI, “Oh God! never with Dalmiya” was the quick answer, accompanied by a broad smile. |
