Ram Prakash assures growth sans bias
Panipat, October 12 Talking to The Tribune at PWD rest house, here this afternoon, Dr Ram Prakash said there would be a uniformity of development projects to be undertaken in the state and no particular areas or district would be given preference on the virtue if any political heavyweight belongs to that area. On his appointment, he showed gratitude to the Congress President, Ms Sonia Gandhi, as she had picked up “a common party worker with a Dalit background’. When asked about his priority after taking over the charge of the new assignment, he said the party would follow the message of Ms Gandhi. Interestingly, none of the local Congress leaders except for a handful of Dalit workers were present to welcome the state party acting chief. On a question, he ruled out rumours of factionalism in the party. He said his foremost priority to make the part concentrating on issues and common man than an individual. He also supported that the party workers should be given a due respect in the state machinery. On the SYL issue he said the issue was taken up by the Chief Minister, Mr Hooda, at the recently held conclave of the Congress Chief Ministers in
Chandigarh. He hoped that the issue would be resolved amicably. He said the party was totally committed to the pre-poll promises and former Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala would be punished for his wrongdoings. |
Deepender Hooda to focus on Rohtak only
Chandigarh, October 12 Mr Deepender Hooda, only son of the Chief Minister, too, has courtesy in abundance. Having stepped into the public sphere after getting elected as a member of the Lok Sabha from Rohtak, he is at present busy gearing himself up for this new phase of his life. Even casual observers of Haryana politics are aware that “the Chief Minister’s son” has been historically an extremely powerful institution in the state. The sons of previous Haryana Chief Ministers, many of whom are still active in the political arena, poked their nose into every aspect of government whenever the opportunity allowed them to wield power. However, Mr Deepender Hooda, an unassuming young man in his late twenties, says that he has other ideas about his role. ‘‘I will confine myself to Rohtak only’’, quips the bespectacled 27-year-old lawmaker when asked about the rather unwelcome tradition. The Rohtak MP, who worked as a manager in an airline company in Dallas in the USA before he returned to India to represent the constituency vacated by his father, says the ‘‘feeling in my guts’’ on becoming a Lok Sabha member is to work hard for the development of the constituency . He says in the USA sometimes he used to work for 16 hours a day. He wants to carry on at the same pace as an MP. ‘‘I have drawn up a plan for developing the constituency. I will try to develop the infrastructure of Rohtak. Toward this goal I will take the initiative to have a power plant, and an airport, set up in Rohtak. On the rural front, I am keen on the empowerment of women and will like to focus on women’s education’’, he says. Side by side with working for his constituency, Mr Deepender Hooda also nurtures the ambition of becoming known as a good debater in the Lok Sabha. ‘‘I am studying the rules and regulations of the Lok Sabha. I also get my father to talk to me about his experience in Parliament so that I learn something from it,” says the MP. On the question of the controversial practice of making politics a family affair, an issue that was hotly discussed in the wake of his entry in the electoral arena, Mr Deepender Hooda says he looks at it from two angles. ‘‘ First, the Congress is a democratic party having a lot of experience in electoral politics. So, when the Congress President gave me the party ticket, she decided in my favour because under the circumstances she perhaps found me the best bet to secure the Rohtak seat’’. ‘‘At the same time I am also aware that I belong to a family which has always been active in politics. My family members have been known for their honesty and integrity and I draw strength from that tradition,’’ he adds. |
BJP to work out plan to counter Congress
Gurgaon, October 12 The meeting, described as crucial in the BJP circles will be held under the shadows of its recent defeat in the just concluded parliamentary bye-election in Rohtak, which is the home district of Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda. Mr Deepender Hooda, son of the Chief Minister won in the electoral contest, much ahead of the BJP nominee, who stood second. The two day-meet is likely to decide on reshuffle of office-bearers in some of the districts where the party cadre is allegedly not functioning as expected. In case the harsh decision is kept in abeyance till a suitable time, mechanism will be evolved to gear up the cadre in those districts. The districts under the arc light include Gurgaon, Faridabad, Rohtak, Sonepat, Panipat and Panchkula. According to a state leader of the BJP, the working committee meeting will evolve a strategy based on the template of its earlier decision to position it self to face the Assembly and parliamentary elections alone. The overwhelming opinion in the state unit of the BJP is that the party has not taken off on better trajectory since the demise of the former state president of the party, late Dr Mangal Sein. There is a feeling in some quarters of the BJP that with the emergence of new and comparatively young leadership in the Haryana Congress in Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, the party will have to counter it,lest the Congress perpetuates itself for a long time under him.Earlier, the BJP had to perforce ally with the regional parties in a bid to balance itself in the social configuration of vote bank-politics. According to analysts, the constellation of voters- peasantry, farmers and other social blocs in the rural belt-were under the influence of the regional parties, especially the various avatars of the Lok Dal under the
stewardship of former Deputy Prime Minister, late Devi Lal.But the rise of Mr Bhupinder Singh Hooda in Congress politics was synonymous with the farming community, peasantry and other social forces in the hinterland turning coat in favour of the Congress in a big way. However, the Congress always had few dedicated voters in the in almost all the villages in the hinterland, and a good presence in the urban and semi-urban pockets where the BJP had to compete with it. But the large-scale Congress-proselytisaton of voters in the rural areas in the past few years demands fresh strategy on the part of the BJP. |
Cong not serious about SYL: BJP
Jhajjar, October 12 The BJP leader said the Congress seems to have forgotten its pre-poll promises as people were facing worst-ever conditions on various fronts, including rising prices of essential commodities, shortage of LPG cylinders and inadequate power supply. On the results of the Rohtak Lok Sabha bypoll, Mr Sangwan said the outcome had indicated the growing influence of the BJP in the state. |

BJP executive to meet on
October 17
Ambala, October 12 Talking to mediapersons here on Sunday, Mr Kataria said a number of issues were likely to be discussed at the meeting. The SYL, farmers’ problems, rising prices, lack of law and order and the Rohtak byelection are likely to be deliberated upon in the meeting. Mr Kataria said the SYL issue was a life and death matter for Haryana, but the Congress leaders were running away from their responsibility. If Mrs Sonia Gandhi wanted to fulfil Indira Gandhi’s promise, she should ensure that the SYL canal was constructed, he said. He said other political parties had only been making hollow promises and misleading the people of Haryana. “The BJP has always taken a strong stand on the SYL issue and we are the only party whose MLAs resigned over the SYL issue one and a half years back,” he said. |

Kurukshetra, October 12 The letter reads that “the meetings of the Selection Committees for appointment to teaching posts in the University including those due for promotion under CAS could not be convened for the past two years for unavailability of Chancellor’s Nominee on the Selection Committees. Delay in convening the meetings of the Selection Committees for appointment against the posts advertised has also resulted in the engagement of incompetent and unqualified persons as guest faculty for undertaking the surplus workload of postgraduate classes and this arrangement has left the students dissatisfied”. The letter further reads that “It is also a matter of great pleasure that a person of the stature of Prof.
R.P. Hooda, a scholar of international repute has been appointed Vice-Chancellor of Kurukshetra University by His Excellency and their joint efforts will take the University to new heights”. |
