Seven lakh pilgrims expected
Special buses for Kapal Mochan Mela

Yamunanagar, November 15
About seven lakh pilgrims are expected to bathe in the sarovar during the Kapal Mochan Mela to be held on the eve of Kartik Purnima at Bilaspur, 18 km from here, from November 16 to 19.

A large number of Hindu and Sikh pilgrims from Punjab, Haryana Himachal and Uttar Pradesh come here every year to have a holy dip in the Kapal Mochan, Rin Mochan and Suraj Kund sarovars to attain moksha. This holy Sarovar, which is like the ‘Dooj Chanderma’ in size, was known as Samsar in Satyuga.

According to the Puranas, Kapal Mochan Dham relieves the sins of all the three eras. As per the belief of the people by taking a bath in this sarovar, even the sin like Braham hatya is washed away. It has been the workplace of Maharishi Ved Vyas, the son of Maharishi Prashar, the creator of the Mahabharata. He has created Vedas and Puranas here. Later on his rest place was known as Viyas Ashram. There are five Tirthas in different directions in the nearby area of Kapal Mochan. In the north is Tirthraj Kapal Mochan itself and in other sides there are Som Sarovar, Rin Mochan, Surya Mund and Chandar Kund.

The Pandawas took a bath in the Rin Mochan Sarovar in, order to get rid of the sins of the death of their relatives and Guru Dronacharya. Suraj Kund Sarovar is in the east of Kapal Mochan. It is believed childless women get the blessing of a child by bathing in this Sarovar.

As per a folk story prevailing in the area in Treta era Lord Rama came here in Pushpak Viman (Plane) after killing Ravana on his way to Ayodhya. This Sarovar was known as Surya Kund till then.

In 1687 Guru Gobind Singh had come here to wash his Shastras after winning 52 wars. So this Sarovar is known as Shastra Sarovar. A gurdwara has been built on the bank of this Sarovar in the memory of this great Guru. Guru Nanak Dev also visited this place in 1584 and recited Rattanmala here. A gurdwara is also situated here.

Pilgrims visiting the annual Kapal Mochan Mela beginning tomorrow will be provided all amenities, Mr Vijayendra Kumar Deputy Commissioner, said here today. He said buses services from Kapal Mochan, Bilaspur, about 25 km from here, to Aad Badri, Paonta Sahib and Hardwar and many other places to benefit pilgrims had been started. He said the local depot of Haryana Roadways earned a profit of Rs 1.60 lakh in October. There had been an increase to the tune of Rs 8.62 lakh in the corresponding month last year.

CBI probe into dera case sought
Tribune News Service

Chandigarh, November 15
Mr Pratap Singh, the estranged brother of the Haryana Chief Minister, today accused the first family of the state of playing “a double role” regarding the murderous attack on a Sirsa-based journalist, Mr Ram Chander Chhatterpati, allegedly by followers of the Dera Sacha Sauda. He demanded a CBI inquiry into the attack on Mr Chhatterpati.

Talking to newsmen Mr Pratap Singh alleged that while Mr Om Prakash Chautala was saying that the law of the land would take its own course, his sons were protecting the dera chief against whom the Punjab and Haryana High Court had ordered a CBI inquiry on the basis of a letter written by a woman inmate of the dera, accusing the dera chief of sexual exploitation.

Mr Pratap Singh accused the former Chief Minister of Punjab, Mr Parkash Singh Badal, and Mr Chautala of having “politicised” the dera in order to “encash the vote-bank of its followers”. He criticised the MP son of Mr Chautala, Mr Ajay Singh, for “disclosing” in public that the CBI had sought the services of five companies of the Haryana Police to raid the dera. He said Mr Ajay Singh, who was emerging as an extra-constitutional authority in Haryana of late, had violated the Official Secrets Act.

Mr Pratap Singh also criticised Punjab Congress leader Jagmeet Singh Brar for defending the dera.

Chandigarh, November 15
Acting on an application filed by a Kurukshetra resident alleging murder of his only son by members of a Sirsa-based religious organisation, Mr Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel of the High Court on Friday issued notice of motion to Haryana’s Advocate-General, besides Central Bureau of Investigations’ standing counsel, for February 4.

In his application, Mr Joginder Singh had earlier alleged that his son was killed in broad day-light as the members suspected him of being involved in the circulation of letter addressed by a girl to the Prime Minister. The letter had, subsequently, appeared in the newspapers.

The High Court, while taking up the letter regarding alleged sexual exploitation of female inmates by the head of the religious organisation, had directed the CBI to look into the matter. The Court had also asked the premier investigating agency to submit its finding within six months.

CBI’s plea

In an application filed before the Punjab and Haryana High Court, the Central Bureau of Investigation has sought three months’ additional time for completing probe into the Meham incident. The application is likely to come up for hearing before a Division Bench tomorrow.

The High Court, it may be recalled, entrusted the “entire case” to the premier investigating agency while disposing of petitions filed by Haryana’s former minister A.S. Dangi.
