Cheques
given to kin of Jaguar crash victims Ambala, November 9 Eight cheques for Rs 1 lakh each were given to next of kin of the Jaguar crash victims. Mr Chautala said the Haryana Government would recommend the Defence Ministry to pay suitable compensation to the affected families. While expressing sympathy to the affected family members, Mr Chautala said in case of any difficulty they should contact the Deputy Commissioner. Mr Chautala handed over cheques to next of kin of Lajwanti, Aarti, Praveen, Nirmala, Bimla, Bharat, Jitender and Shivani. Among others, MLAs Anil Vij, Jasbir Mallour, Balwant Singh, Deputy Commissioner D.D. Gautam, SP Hardeep Singh Doon and SDM M.K. Ahuja were present. Later, Mr Chautala inaugurated a rest shelter at Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Park on the occasion of the 327th martyrdom day of Bhai Mati Das. Mr G.D. Chibber, an industrialist and descendant of Bhai Mati Das, said the shelter had been constructed at a cost of about Rs 3 lakh and Chaudhary Devi Lal Senior Citizens Sadan had been constructed through the MPLAD at a cost of Rs 5 lakh. “Ambala Cantt MLA Anil Vij was instrumental in the conversion of polluted 18 acres into Subhash Park. We are all contributing our bit in this community effort,” he said. The former Punjab Governor, Lieut-Gen B.K.N. Chibber (retd), spoke about the glorious history of the Mohyal community. He said Bhai Mati Das was a martyr. |
Trader shot at, protest held Bhiwani, November 9 Mr Ram Kumar Ritoli was shot at while he was on way to a temple on scooter by two youths. While one of the assailants was nabbed by the crowd, the other managed to escape. The Deputy Superintendent of Police Surender Pal and SDM Dharmvir reached the spot, got the injured admitted to the civil hospital where doctors referred him to PGIMS, Rohtak. Several traders called for a bandh in protest against the incident and raised slogans against the deteriorating law and order situation. The police has registered a case and hunt has been launched to arrest the culprit. The assailant who was caught has been identified as Sanjay of Sunaria village. He told the police that his accomplice was a resident of Babulpur village. The reason of attack is unknown. |
KUNTEA members
hold rally Kurukshetra, November 9 While addressing the rally, KUNTEA president Karan Singh said, according to a university notification released here yesterday, those ad hoc and contractual employees, whose services had been restored, would continue on job with a one-day service break after 89 days of service while 118 of them had been removed. Declaring the launch of an agitation, Mr Karan Singh said they would follow the work to rule schedule till the service of the 118 employees was restored. None of the employees would work after 5 p.m., nor they would work overtime on Saturdays and Sundays. The sacked employees could be adjusted against various posts lying vacant in university departments, Mr Karan Singh added. Referring to the university plan to invite tenders to render contract of various jobs, Mr Karan Singh said it was learnt that about 300 university employees would be removed and the jobs being done by them would be given on contract. Tenders had been invited by November 15 and 17 in this regard, he added. Meanwhile, KUNTEA general secretary Madan Gopal Sharma urged the university administration to absorb 118 ad hoc and contractual employees without further delay. |
Restore
water connections: minister Yamunanagar, November 9 Addressing members of the committee, Mr Arora said the government was committed to provide basic facilities to the people . He said the government would also undertake the repair work of the chaupals and phirnies in the state. He emphasised upon the need for providing basic facilities and development of rural areas. He said to provide sufficient potable water, 90 per cent grant would be given to the villages which incur 10 per cent revolving expenses. Earlier, Mr Vijayender Kumar, Deputy Commissioner, directed the district officers to take steps to remove encroachments on government, panchayat and municipal land. |

UNESCO to cooperate with Haryana Chandigarh, November 9 This was conveyed by Ms Lydia Rebecca Ruprecht, Director of the Unit for Women Empowerment, UNESCO, to Mrs Sudesh Kumari, wife of the Haryana Governor, in Paris yesterday, according to an official press note issued here today. Mrs Sudesh Kumari is currently leading an all-women delegation to various countries. It was decided at the meeting between Ms Ruprecht and the Haryana delegation that officers of UNESCO and the state government would identify new projects for women and child development. The Haryana delegation briefed the representatives of UNESCO about the socio-economic challenges faced by Indian women and the measures being taken by the state government for their empowerment. |
Dispute
leads to man’s murder Yamunanagar, November 9 According to information, last night around 10 o’ clock a person came to Ram Sewak and tried to park his bicycle at Ram’s residence. However, Ram Sewak refused to oblige him following which heated arguments were exchanged between the two and there was a minor scuffle. On hearing the noise, villagers came to the site and pacified them. The cyclist left the site and threatened him with dire consequences. Late at night while Ram Sewak was sleeping in the Verandah of his house and other members of his family were watching TV, the accused allegedly came there and attacked Ram Sewak on his neck with an axe and left him in a critical condition. He was rushed to the Civil Hospital, Jagadhari, where he succumbed to his injury. A case has been registered under Section 302 of the IPC. The body was handed over to the family after a post-mortem examination. |

Car-borne youths loot Rs 3 lakh Fatehabad, November 9 According to reports, Mr Tarsem Chand, an employee of a grain market firm, M/s Puran Chand Tilak Raj, had gone to the Jakhal branch of the State Bank of India to withdraw Rs 3 lakh from his account. As soon as he came out of the bank, two youths came out of a white Maruti car and snatched the bag containing money from him on gun point. They then fled towards Punjab in the car. Though the police was informed about the incident, no case had been registered so far. |

Military Hospital Ambala, November 9 Major-Gen R. P. Singh, senior consultant (medicine), AFMS, was the chief guest. About 150 doctors from all over the country, including Armed Forces Medical Services and civil organisations are participating in the conference. The forum started with a lecture on management of poly-trauma by Prof Raj Bahadur, head of department (surgery), Government Medical College, Chandigarh. The conference covered multi-disciplinary topics on emergency medicare, including management of war injuries, spinal injuries, bleeding from gastro-intestinal tract and nose. Also emergencies in various fields medicine like obstetrics and gynaecology, heart and paediatrics were deliberated upon. Cops come
to believe robbery report Ambala, November 9 The cashier, Dalbir Singh, had reported that two scooter-borne youth had put chilli powder in his eyes and looted cash that he was going to deposit in a bank at Lal
Kurti Initially the police was not believing him and a senior police officer had even said that none of the person of the locality had knowledge of the incident. Later after investigation the case was registered. Meanwhile, the General Manager of the Haryana Roadway Ambala depot, Mr Arvind Sharma, has told all employees of the depot handling cash to take precautions to avoid such incidents. The matter was reported to the higher authorities of the Transport Department. |
