One killed, 4 hurt in mishap Hisar, November 5 According to the police, Raj Kumar, of nearby Dabra village and his four friends — Dharmender of the same village, Manoj Kumar of Dhani Gopal, Ran Singh of Talwandi Rukka and Vijay Kumar of Gadhi village — were returning here from Delhi by car. As soon as they reached near Hansi, a bus, coming from the opposite side, collided with their vehicle. Raj Kumar succumbed to his injuries on way to the hospital while others, too, received serious injuries. The Hansi police has registered a case of negligent driving against the bus driver but no arrest has been made so far. |

Fatehabad Mr Sunil Kumar, partner of a leading local electronic goods shop, told this correspondent that this time around the sales of electronic goods had been 40 to 50 per cent higher than that of last year because of introduction of various Divali schemes by leading manufacturers.

Scribe assault case: CM promises action Sirsa, November 5 Condemning the incident the Chief Minister warned that flouting of the law would not be tolerated. Appealing to people to maintain peace, he said that his “softness” should not be taken as his weakness. Anti-social elements would not be allowed to create disorder, he warned. Later a delegation of the Janhit Suraksha Samiti constituted after the attack on the scribe met the Chief Minister and submitted an eight-point memorandum to him, demanding a CBI inquiry into dera activities. The Chief Minister promised appropriate action in the matter. Earlier the Chief Minister, speaking at a function held to celebrate the opening of a new teaching block, Ravinder Bhavan, and Harki Devi Girls’ Hostel on the local Regional Centre campus, wished people well on the occasion of Divali and appealed to them to shun evil. Meanwhile, Congress MLA from Sirsa Laxman Das Arora, addressing newsmen at his residence here today, demanded that “the persons involved in the scribe assault case should not be spared”. Mr Arora said that violence to intimidate the Press was intolerable. Mr Arora expressed concern over the activities of the local dera and said that a CBI probe into the allegations of criminal acts was called for. He added that places of worship should not be for sheltering criminals. The Congress leader demanded immediate action to restore a sense of security among the people. Replying to a question he justified the stand of state Congress president Bhajan Lal on the freedom of the Press. |
Man gets 7 years’ jail for killing wife Sirsa, November 5 According to information received today Manoj Kumar, a local resident, was pronounced guilty by the District and Sessions Judge. Manoj Kumar, who was married to Shashi in 1999, was accused by his in-laws of torturing their daughter for dowry. As per the complaint, it was alleged that Manoj had illicit relations with the wife of his brother. Hence, they poisoned Shashi to death on June 14, 2000. After a trial of about two years, District and Sessions Judge M.S. Sullar found Manoj guilty, whereas his brother and his wife were given the benefit of the doubt and acquitted. In another case, local advocate Sandeep Chaudhary was arrested on a complaint by his wife. The local Bar Association came to his support. In a case registered under the NDPS Act, the Judicial Magistrate sentenced Sukhvinder of Nakora village to a year’s imprisonment and fine him Rs 300 for possessing 200 kg of narcotics. |
