Dulina being used to grind political axe: CM Fatehabad, October 26 He said on the one hand the Opposition parties were all praise for Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh for his campaign against former Akali ministers and corrupt bureaucrats and on the other hand when his government acted against the corrupt deeds of former ministers, they dubbed it vindictive. He conceded the demand for old age homes at Azadnagar, Bhodia Khera, Sadhwali and Basti Bhiwan villages and new rooms for schools at Bisla and Bhodia Khera villages. Earlier, he inaugurated Manohar Memorial Institute of Management and Technology here. The institute has been set up at a cost of Rs 1.25 crore. |
Bhajan men dominate HPCC executive Chandigarh, October 26 The PCC now has 10 vice presidents, one treasurer, 11 general secretaries, 23 secretaries, one organising secretary and 44 members of the executive. However, supporters of Mr Bhajan Lal dominate the restructured executive. Most of these supporters were sidelined during the presidentship of Mr Bhupinder Singh Hooda, who swapped his place with Mr Bhajan Lal to become the CLP leader in the Haryana Assembly. Though the Congress claims to be supporting the principle of 33 per cent reservation for women, it has nominated only 14 women in the new executive. Two women each find their names among 10 vice presidents and 11 general secretaries. Only four women have been nominated among 23 secretaries and six among 44 executive members. According to a press release issued by the party here today, former chief ministers, former pradesh unit presidents, party MPs, former union ministers from Haryana, heads of party’s frontal organisations in the state and AICC office bearers belonging to Haryana would be the special invitees. Mr Ranjit Singh, a former legislator and younger brother of Chief Minister and INLD supremo, Mr Om Prakash Chautala, veteran Congress leader Mr Chiranji Lal Sharma and bureaucrat turned politician, Kirpa Ram Punia figure in the list of vice presidents. Mr Avinash Paliwal and Mr D.N. Tyagi have been nominated as trasurer and organising secretaries, respectively. |
Attack on scribe: CM promises action Fatehabad, October 26 A revolver-wielding man had pumped four bullets in Chhatrapati’s body last evening. Chhatrapati was later operated upon at Rohtak Medical College, where he is still battling for life. On being apprehended by the police and local people, the accused had named a manager of a Sirsa-based religious dera, who, he said, had provided him with the revolver and a walkie-talkie set to commit the crime. The dera managers were reportedly annoyed with Chhatrapati as he had been publishing reports of the alleged misdeeds of the dera in his paper. The journalists have been apprehending lack of action on the part of the government as many politicians have allegedly been visiting the dera to pay obeisance. The Chief Minister assured the local journalists that the state government had asked the district administration to take strict action against the accused in the crime. He added that his government was considering to hold a comprehensive inquiry into the affairs of the dera by clubbing all complaints against it, including the one in which the Punjab and Haryana High Court had ordered a CBI probe. The high court, had ordered a CBI probe into an anonymous complaint by a girl who had alleged sexual abuse of girls in the dera.

MC chief chosen
unanimously Bhiwani, October 26 The dissident councillors had met the Chief Minister during his visit here a fortnight ago and he told Mr Arora to submit his resignation to the administration the same day. Meanwhile, the Vice-President of the council, Ms Patash Kaur, took charge as acting President. When the councillors met the Chief Minister at the local rest house and urged him to give financial aid to the council to run it smoothly besides paying pending salaries of employees who had been agitating for the past few months, they were upbraided by the Chief Minister that they could not decide a person for the post of presidentship unanimously. Thereafter, 28 out of 31 councillors convened a meeting and unanimously decided on Ms Manju Rani, a councillor from Ward No. 14 as their President. The councillors were of the view that there were 11 women members in the House and previously two women councillors had run the council successfully, so a woman should be their leader. Ms Manju Rani, being a candidate from the backward class, fulfilled another requirement, besides. Later, Mr Ajay Singh Chautala, MP, whom the councillors met at the PWD rest house, approved the decision. Municipal councillors Ramesh Masta, Murli Dhar Mehta and Ishwar Mann were not present at the meeting whereas the outgoing President, Mr Arora, did not attend the meeting due to unknown reasons. |
KU step on private colleges Karnal, October 26 This was disclosed by the Vice-Chancellor, Mr R.S. Chaudhary, to TNS after the meeting. “The step will go a long way in curbing rising groupism among managements of privately managed colleges for wresting control of the governing bodies. It has been generally observed that groupism among governing body members often leads to bitter animosities and bickerings among faculty members. This ultimately affects the studies of the students,” Mr Chaudhary said. He said by another significant decision, the university had banned the appointments of superannuated teachers beyond the age of 62 years to any statutory or non-statutory body of the university and its affiliated colleges. The decision, however, would not cover the colleges which fell under the purview of the AICTE. A large number of superannuated teachers turned senile towards the problems of the university and did not contribute much towards the effective functioning of these bodies, he added. Mr Chaudhary said all promotion cases under the C.S. scheme relating to promotions from lecturer to readers and readers to professors were approved by the executive council. Such cases had been pending since long. The faculty members would be able to get their arrears of pay also. The Vice-Chancellor said only three disputed cases that of Ms Ramana Sood, Mr Rajinder Yadav and Mr M.M. Goyal in the above categories were not approved by the council. In order to strictly enforce the affiliation conditions in the privately managed colleges, the council decided that Saheed Udham Singh National College, Matak Majri (Indiri), would not be allowed to make admissions with effect from the next academic session if the college failed to fulfil the conditions of affiliation. By another decision, the council decided that those employees who owned houses in their names or in the names of their spouses in the municipal limits of Kurukshetra and Thanesar or within 8 km radius would not be allotted accommodation on the campus henceforth. It also revised house rent and water tariff rates of the employees living on the campus. The rise in house rent rates is almost 50 per cent for all categories. Mr Chaudhary stated that the council took another decision to curb the rising cases of character assassination among a section of employees against their colleagues. It had been observed that false and unsubstantiated complaints were made to the senior authorities against colleagues in large numbers. Such complaints bordered on character assassination. The council had framed rules for representations and service conditions. In fact employees who made such false allegations which were defamatory in nature would be strictly dealt with. |
