HAU scraps entrance
test Hisar, November 13 Henceforth, admission to this course would be made on the basis of merit from the next academic session. The decision was taken by the Academic Council of the university at its meeting held here yesterday. It also decided that admission to the four-year-degree programme of bachelor of veterinary sciences and animal husbandry (B.V.Sc & A.H.) would continue to be made on the basis of the entrance test as recommended by the Veterinary Council of India (VCI). Readmission to the make-up examination, requirement of the overall grade point average
(OGPA) for the award of gold medal and introduction of “earn while you learn” scheme were the other issues discussed at the meeting. Though the university has already made the “earn while you learn” scheme an integral part of its graduate programmes in the College of Agriculture, yet keeping in view the new decision of the Haryana Government, the council decided to implement this scheme for students of all disciplines. According to the new decision, the final year students of different degree programmes and senior but deserving students of the post-graduate programmes would be allowed to work in the varsity library and other departments on an hourly payment basis. The council held that this decision would enable the varsity to achieve better work efficiency at lesser cost. |

HUDA reduces interest
rates Chandigarh, November 13 This decision was taken at a meeting of HUDA presided over by the Town and Country Planning Minister, Mr Dhirpal Singh, here today. Now HUDA will charge 11 per cent interest on the balance amount of the land allotted by it instead of 15 per cent. Similarly, the annual rate of interest on delayed instalments has been reduced from 18 per cent to 14 per
cent. After the meeting Mr Dhirpal Singh said the decision to reduce interest rates had been taken in view of the reduction in the interest rates by various financial institutions. HUDA also announced a reprieve for those allottees who had not completed construction on the land allotted to them in the past 16 years. Another two-year extension would be given to such allottees after December 31, 2002, when the deadline for completion of construction was to expire. The
extension policy was introduced in 1987. The allottees seeking extension would have to pay a fee of Rs 85 per square metre per annum in the high potential zone; Rs 60 per square metre per annum in the medium potential zone and Rs 35 per square metre per annum in the low potential
zone. In case of commercial sites of up to two storeys and more, the rate of extension fee would be two times and three times of residential rates, respectively. However, there would be no change in the rate of extension fee in case of plots up to 100 square yards. Mr Dhirpal singh said HUDA would launch a new group housing scheme-2002, having a number of attractive features like an increase in the floor area ratio, in the size of dwelling units and a reduction in the minimum number of members required to form a society. HUDA has also decided to allow group housing societies of state or central government employees and welfare housing organisations to replace or induct new members in the general category. |

The journalists forwarded copies of the memorandum submitted to the SP to the Chief Justice of India, the Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission and the Press Council of India. The accused, he alleged, manhandled his wife and threatened him and his employees. The police had registered a case under Sections 458, 148, 149 and 427 of the IPC against about 50 persons. The journalists regretted that the police had not taken action against the accused. The SP assured them that as the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had been investigating a complaint of sexual abuse today by a former young ‘sadhvi’ of the sect against the sect chief and the state government had decided to refer all cases against the sect to the CBI. The case of Mr Bansal would also be entrusted to the CBI, he added. |
