Cop lands in CBI net for taking Rs 5000 from woman
Chandigarh, November 13
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a Sub-Inspector of the Chandigarh Police for allegedly demanding and accepting money from a woman whose husband is currently lodged in jail in an alleged fake visa racket case. The woman has alleged that the SI was demanding Rs 50,000 from her to ‘‘dilute’’ the charge-sheet of her husband.

Rent Act amendment: traders hold dharna
Chandigarh, November 13
Thousands of traders of the city today held a protest rally in Sector 17 against the recent notification amending the East Punjab Urban Rent Restriction Act, 1949, while announcing their intention to block roads and even go on a jail bharo drive if the notification was not withdrawn.

Awareness drive on registration of birth

In an effort to promote registration of birth, the Directorate of Census Operations, Punjab and Chandigarh, will be launching an awareness drive on Children's Day tomorrow. The authorities have been asked to distribute birth certificates to parents of selected children, born recently.

Bank GM arrested
Chandigarh, November 13
Following yesterday’s arrest of the General Manager of the State Co-operative Bank Chandigarh, Vinod Sharma, for his alleged involvement in the Rs 11 crore scam, the CBI today produced him in the court of UT Chief Judicial Magistrate, Mr C.L. Mohal, in the evening. He was remanded in police custody till November 16.
