PU students council submits memo

A delegation of the Panjab University Campus Students Council, under the leadership of its president Malwinder Singh Kang, met the Vice-Chancellor today and submitted a memorandum of demands asking for postponement of certain forthcoming examination by at least one week.
Science students exorcise ghosts

Staff and students in the biomedical-sciences block of Panjab University organised a ‘havan’, followed by a Sukhmani Sahib path here today. Though the staff and students would not easily concede the facts, on the condition of anonymity, they said the religious ceremonies had been performed so that the souls of the departed teachers of the departments in the block could rest in peace.
Melody reigns at Mosaic-2002

Melody reigned supreme on the second day of Mosaic 2002 - cultural cum IT fest, hosted by Dev Samaj College for Women, Sector 45, here today. The participants had an opportunity to showcase their talent through two contests, namely Champa Devi Memorial Inter-College Group Song contest and Maya Devi Memorial Inter-College Light Vocal Music contest.

Life term for city youth
Chandigarh, November 15
A city youth was today sentenced to life imprisonment for murdering the girl he loved in 1998 by setting her on fire. The UT Additional and Sessions Judge, Mr Balbir Singh, awarded the sentence to Bahadur Singh, a resident of Sector 16, and also fined him a sum of Rs 10,000. In case of default, the convict has to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of another one year.
HC: check traffic violations

Residents beware! If you have the habit of flouting traffic rules, chances of your getting away undetected from the probing eyes of the law are going to be slim in the coming weeks. The reason: Mr Justice Swatanter Kumar of the Punjab and Haryana High Court today directed Chief Secretaries of Punjab and Haryana to deploy 30 constables each from the surrounding districts to check traffic violations in the city.
