Chautala in USA to woo investors Los Angeles, June 16 The delegation, which will visit Toronto, Chicago, London, Paris and Amsterdam, was received at LAX International Airport here by Federation of Indo American president Ramesh Mahajan, Federation vice-president Virendar Kumar and a host of representatives from the Indian community. Talking to reporters at the luncheon meeting organised by the Federation of Indo American, Mr Chautala complimented Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee for having evolved a consensus on the name of National Democratic Alliance presidential candidate A P J Abdul Kalam. Giving a detailed perspective of Haryana, which was emerging as the favoured destination in India for setting up industries in the thrust areas of automobile and auto components, information technology, electronics, telecommunications, agro and food processing, handloom and textiles and other export-oriented units, the Chief Minister said the state offered one of the fastest ‘’conceptualisation to actualisation’’ system in the country. The focus of the state government was to provide a clean and transparent time schedule to the prospective investors, he said. The state government was conscious to remove any roadblocks in developing partnership with investors and steps had already been taken to streamline clearances.

Six ‘baratis’ killed in road accident Ambala, June 16 The accident took place at about 4 p.m. when an advance party of a barat was returning from Maggarpur village. There were seven persons in the Maruti car. While six persons were killed, the seventh person is battling for life and has been referred to the PGI, Chandigarh. A police official said that at least four of those who were killed were related to one another. The victims include Meghnath, Shyam Lal, Janak, driver Sunil Dutt and the boy Kalu, who is Shyam Lal’s son. The baratis were travelling back to their village when the Canter going towards Chandigarh via Saha collided with it. While four persons died on the spot, two died on the way to the Civil Hospital, Ambala cantonment. The lone survivor, Harjinder Singh, has been referred to the PGI. A pall of gloom descended on the village when they learnt that six persons had been killed in an accident. The villagers expressed shock that a happy occasion like marriage should have a tragic ending. |
Ved Pal is NCP observer for HP Chandigarh, June 16 The General Secretary of the NCP, Mr Tariq Anwar, has written to Mr Ved Pal, who is also the Chairman of the Kisan cell of the party, to visit Himachal Pradesh and constitute the state unit of the party there in view of the forthcoming Assembly elections. Mr Ved Pal was also appointed observer for Uttaranchal during the last Assembly elections. The NCP was able to open its account in the elections. |

Failed in exam, they end life Ambala, June 16 Roopinder Kaur, a resident of Rasoolpur village, committed suicide after consuming a poisonous substance when she learnt that she had failed in the board examination. Members of her family rushed her to a hospital in Naraingarh from where she was referred to PGI, Chandigarh. Later, she died. In the second incident, Kulwinder Singh, a resident of Bhanokheri village, committed suicide after a friend, who has seen his result on a a website, informed him that he had failed. He was rushed to a hospital in Ambala City where he breathed his last. |
