No room
for forum in judicial complex Kaithal, June 7 Mr Bansi Lal, the then Chief Minister had laid the foundation stone of the building in June, 1997 and it was estimated to be completed at a cost of Rs 2.00 crore in 1999, but due to escalation in costs the building was completed at a cost of Rs 3.58 crore. Fifteen court rooms have been constructed of which eight have been occupied by three Additional District and Sessions Judges and other judicial officers posted here. The District Consumer Redressal Forum still continues to function from a separate building situated at a distance of about 2 km from the judicial complex. It is surprising that although seven court rooms remain unoccupied in the state building the consumer forum still remains without a room. For the time being the conference hall is being used as the Bar and library, but the place is so small that all members cannot be accommodated at one time. Mr K.L Bhardwaj, president of the District Bar Association, in a statement has taken strong exception to the serious lapse on the part of the officials of the departments concerned. When this correspondent met the advocates they were in a very agitated mood over the absence of basic facilities in such a huge building. In the absence of any proper place the advocates were sitting in verandahs and those who were not lucky enough to find a place they had built kiosks on one side of the road or in the backyards of the complex. The advocates told the reporter that still there were no water coolers and they had to drink that water stored in the tanks. Moreover there is no provision for any canteen building which can cater to the needs of those present in the complex. No place has been provided for the
Photostat machines and typists who work in the courts. |
CM reschedules foreign visit Chandigarh, June 7 The postponement is believed to have been caused primarily because of problems being faced in obtaining visas of certain countries by those who are to accompany Mr Chautala on his foreign visit. Another reason may be the ongoing agitation of the BKU. Informed sources say Mr Chautala is not very keen on the foreign visit because of the current BKU agitation. In fact, a couple of days ago, Mr Chautala reportedly told officers present at a meeting that if he left the state at this juncture the people would accuse him of deserting Haryana when it was burning. However, the officers told him that if the visit was cancelled for the third time also, it would result in a loss of face. |
MLA allowed to
go abroad Ambala, June 7 Mr Bhatia had filed an application through his counsel on Thursday seeking permission for the proposed foreign tour. The counsel stated in the application that the state government had arranged a foreign tour for several MLAs scheduled to commence in the second week of June. Mr Bhatia had also been selected for the tour. The court issued notice to the CBI for June 7 in this regard. During arguments on the application here today, the CBI counsel opposed the application and requested the court not to grant permission to Mr Bhatia to visit a foreign country as a criminal case had been pending against him. The CBI expressed its suspicion that Mr Bhatia might settle abroad by availing this opportunity. A criminal case was registered against Mr Bhatia and his brothers at Faridabad on the complaint of the owner of a local newspaper a few years back. Later the case was handed over to the CBI on the directions of the Punjab and Haryana High Court. Plan to expand
Civil Hospital A plan to expand the Civil Hospital, Ambala Cantonment, to a 200-bed hospital is being actively considered. A meeting of the Swasthya Kalyan Samiti, which was formed to provide better services in government hospitals under a European Commission project, was held today under the presidentship of Mr Anil Vij, MLA. Among others, Mr Vishwa Prakash Walia, Dr S. L.
Kaushik, Dr G. P. Saluja, Dr Umesh Lamba, Dr Vinay Gupta, Dr Suresh Sharma and Mr G. R. Dewan attended the meeting. In view of the fact that
four-laning of the Jagadhari road is likely to start soon, the old buildings of the hospital may be demolished. The dilapidated female ward may be reconstructed.
