Admn to revive fire hydrant system
Tribune News Service

Ambala, May 29
The fire hydrant system of Ambala is gradually being revived.
Fire hydrant had been established at Ambala City and Ambala Cantonment so that water could be quickly replenished by the fire fighting units. Old timers recall that the fire hydrants and static tanks were established on the recommendation of a senior fire officer of the then undivided Punjab.

Over a period of time, the fire hydrants fell into disuse. A major reason for the fire hydrants becoming a thing of the past was the lack of sufficient water supply. Except for a handful of fire hydrants which are still in use by the Fire Department, the rest have been relegated to the history pages.

The district administration has now decided to revive the fire hydrants the step is being taken to ensure that in case of multiple fires, the fire fighting units can quickly replenish their water stock and tackle fires.

The Deputy Commissioner, Ambala, Mr D.D. Gautam, said at least three of the fire hydrants would be repaired. “The estimates of carrying repairs of the fire hydrants have been prepared by the Public Health Department and these will be made functional soon,” he said.
