SP’s daughter untraced Fatehabad, May 25 With the rounding up of Surjeet Singh, resident of Kata Kheri village, the police hopes that other two suspected to be involved in the abduction, Khem Singh, alias Khema, and Maliat Singh, will also be arrested soon. All three suspects are real brothers. The Haryana police chief, Mr M.S. Malik, who was here to see the progress in securing the child’s release, refused to divulge any details saying, “It will prove detrimental to the safety of the child”. He, however, said the police had identified the hideouts of the suspects and raids were being conducted. Efforts to contact the local SP moved
futile. Shifa was allegedly abducted by some jeep-borne miscreants on Thursday evening when she was taking a walk with her mother near their residence. Reports from sources said that the child had been recovered, but the police declined to confirm. Earlier this month on May 13, the police had an armed confrontation with the suspects’ family when they had gone to arrest Khem Singh wanted by the police in Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan in several criminal cases. Six policemen were injured in the incident. The police sees the kidnapping as a possible fallout of their action against Khem Singh and his family.

FCI staff hold demonstrations Kurukshetra, May 25 Claiming this, in a press note issued here today, the BKNKS additional general secretary, Mr Virender Walia, said over 1000 employees of the FCI from all over the state participated in the demonstrations shouting slogans in favour of their 20-odd demands, including cancellation of transfers of sangh leaders and active workers, withdrawal of charge sheets and suspension orders, payment of over time allowance lying pending with the FCI for years together, promotion of all class IV employees on the seniority basis and an end to all sorts of victimisation of all innocent employees. Mr Walia said the employees resented the proclamation of Section 144 of the CrPC in and around all depots and offices of the FCI in the state on the basis of misleading reports submitted by the authorities concerned that there would be a breach of peace whereas the BKNKS had declared that its agitation would remain peaceful. The BKNKS also demanded its immediate withdrawal. Because FCI’s operations could not run without the assembly of four or more than four persons. A three-day protest dharna would be staged at the regional office of the FCI, Haryana, in Chandigarh from May 30 while a mass protest rally would be organised at the office on June 5. |
Saha to have industrial
growth centre Chandigarh, May 25 Industrialists had been fighting for a growth centre for a decade. The Centre had sanctioned two industrial growth centres for Haryana. While one centre was established in southern Haryana, the other was approved at Saha when the Union Information and Broadcasting Minister, Mrs Sushma Swaraj, was an MLA in 1987. However, the successive governments had been dilly-dallying on the project. Though land was acquired by the government in the mid-nineties, the growth centre could not be started due to certain legal hurdles. The Haryana State Industries Development Corporation (HSIDC), the promotor of the centre, too had reservations about its viability. However, Mr Anil Vij, Independent MLA along with the industrialists persuaded the Chief Minister to go ahead with the project. A former Senior Vice-President of the Haryana Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dr N.C. Jain, said here today that the centre would give a boost to the scientific instruments industry of which Ambala was the main centre in the region. A former President of the Ambala City Municipal Committee, Mr Kirti Prasad Jain, said after several years, a major project had come to Ambala, which had been constantly ignored by the Congress governments. The cost of the project would be shared by the Centre and the state. Mr Chautala would also lay the foundation stones of a food park and a food research and analysis
centre. |

Decks cleared for Saha growth centre Ambala, May 25 With the Haryana Chief Minister, Mr Om Prakash Chautala, scheduled to carry out bhoomi pujan in Saha for the growth centre on May 26, decks have been cleared for the project which had been hanging fire for the past couple of years. In 1985, the Government of India had given the green signal to 62 growth centres all over the country to boost industrialisation. Two of the growth centres had been earmarked for Haryana in Bawal and Saha. While the Bawal growth centre came up, the Saha growth centre did not materialise due to one reason or the other. Now all that is set to change. Ambala Cantt MLA Anil Vij said, It is going to be a historic day for Ambala. The benefits of industrialisation will finally be felt by the local residents. I have been raising this issue since 1996,” he said. He pointed out that earlier the Saha growth centre was supposed to be spread over 1,000 acre. “But due to the delay in starting the project, prices have escalated The project will now be developed in two phases. In the first phase, 400 acre will be developed and the second phase will be developed subsequently,” he said. Mr Vij said that once the infrastructure was in place, plots could be offered to industries. “ It must be stressed that the problem of unemployment being faced in Ambala will be greatly reduced. Also there will be revenue generation in the region which will bring prosperity here. Although it was a long-pending project, once it is ready, it is bound to transform Ambala,” he said. It has been repeatedly stressed that Ambala is well -connected by rail as well as by road. It is also close to Chandigarh and Delhi, too, is about 200 km away. Also, Ambala does not suffer from any major law and order problem and educated manpower is readily available. Dr. Nemi Chand Jain, Chairman of Haryana Exporters Association, observed that Mr Chautala, during his recent visit to different states, had succeeded in wooing several companies to invest up to Rs 1,500 crore in Haryana. “ We demand that at least 25 per cent of these investors should be encouraged to set up their respective units at Saha growth centre,” he said. Dr Jain said that an area of at least 100 acre should be set apart for Ambala, Yamuna Nagar, Jagadhari, Panchkula and Shahbad industrialists to enable them to establish their units at Saha. “ Employment opportunities will considerably increase and the produce will be available at cheaper rates as compared to that in other states. Revenue generation will also take place,” said Dr Jain while referring to the benefits of the centre. The president of the district unit of Haryana Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mr Bharat Bhushan Jain, said that the centre’s establishment was to be a milestone for this region. “It will bring about a sea change in industrial development in Ambala. This long-pending demand of HCCI has finally been met,” he said. Business Cell state president of the Haryana unit of BJP, Mr Kirti Parsad
Jain, said that the centre project had been pending for the past one decade. “The Saha growth centre was supposed to be at par with NOIDA. The growth centre will lead to industrial development in the region,” he quipped. |
