Haryana SC staff’s pay scales not to be revised Chandigarh, May 18 A meeting regarding disinvestment/privatisation of public sector undertakings and cooperative institutions of Haryana, held at Chandigarh under the Chairmanship of the Chief Minister, Mr Om Prakash Chautala, rejected the proposal in the light of a guideline of a ministers’ committee. According to the guideline issued in 1998, pay scales of the employees of loss-making enterprises, which had incurred losses for three years or more out of the preceding five years, should be revised only if such enterprises start making profits. Though the HSCFDC was shown to have made a profit of Rs 28 lakh in the past financial year, the profit was found to have been made through interest on grants received from the Centre. The union Government gave the grants to be distributed among the Scheduled Caste beneficiaries of Haryana and the amount should have been utilised for that purpose instead of being kept in the bank to earn interest. It was also reported in the meeting that the corporation had not been able to meet the administrative expenses in spite of a margin of 2 per cent given by the funding agency to the organisation. Moreover, the annual liability on account of revision of the pay scales would come to Rs 28 lakh per annum which would offset the profit claimed to have been earned by the corporation. Therefore, it was found that the criteria prescribed by the ministers’ committee could not be fulfilled by the corporation and the proposal for giving benefits of pay revision was not accepted. |
BKU activists warned against holding
rally Jind, May 18 The rally is being organised in protest against the non-implementation of the agreement reached between the representatives of the government and office-bearers of the BKU on January 31. Talking to mediapersons here today, Mr K.K. Rao, SP, said the rally was illegal because the District Magistrate had promulgated orders under Section 144 of the CrPC, banning the assembly of more than four persons. He said if the BKU activists organised the rally, they would be arrested. Meanwhile, residents of several villages claimed that a new state-level organisation called the Bhartiya Kisan Union had been constituted at Kandela village recently to safeguard the interests of farmers. According to a press note, 2,500 representatives of about 100 villages unanimously elected Mr Ran Singh of Jeetgarh village as president of the union. The press note said the new union had decided to oppose the rally as it was against the interests of the farmers. |

power cuts irk residents Ambala, May 18 Power cuts and voltage fluctuations have increased in frequency and particularly this week, the power problems are being felt by the residents of Ambala Cantonment as well as Ambala city. Although the distribution network for power has been improved, the shortfall during the peak season is said to have been caused due to the excess load. The old parts of Ambala are facing more power problems compared to the newly developed areas. A resident of Khattarwara in Ambala city said that although there are no announcements, power cuts take place. “Also, there are times when we face voltage fluctuation and if there is high voltage, then our electrical appliances and bulbs get damaged,” he said. Urban Estate, Sector 7 resident, Mr
Akhilesh, said that there are times when the linemen do not cooperate which leads to delay in fault rectification. Citing an example, he said that a few days back, there was a fuse fault in the transformer located near the community centre. “Even though the linemen passed through the area, they refused to heed to our request to have a look at the problem here. They said that they will act only when they receive an order,” he said. In certain areas of Ambala Sadar, including the cantonment area, there is erratic power supply and even if supply is consistent then sometimes requisite voltage is lacking. While it may be difficult to predict a fault in a system, the speed with which the fault is rectified has come in for criticism from consumers who have to brave the summer heat. A power official said that according to an estimate, the power consumption goes upto about 34-35 lakh units in a day during these summer months. Superintendent Engineer Adlakha said that there is no problem in power supply. “Following a wind storm earlier this week, our poles were damaged which has affected power supply in some areas. There is currently lack of flexibility since repair work has to be carried out on a single line and an alternative power source cannot be provided to the affected areas. This, however, will change soon” he said. Mr Adlakha said that work is being carried out on a war-footing on two lines — Model Town line and Kakru line — so that they are commissioned at the earliest. He observed that once the 220 kv sub station at
Tepla, the foundation stone for which was laid by Haryana CM O.P. Chautala earlier this week, is commissioned, there will be marked improvement in the power scenario for
Ambala. “There will be an increase in reliability as well as flexibility,” he said. |

Bitta Ambala, May 18 Talking to mediapersons here today, Mr Bitta said after the terrorist attack at Kaluchak in which innocent children were killed, all other options except for an attach was ruled out. “There cannot be anything more terrible than the children being mercilessly killed by militants. It is very sad,” he said. Mr Bitta visited the residence of Subedar Atar Singh in Naneola village. Subedar Atar Singh’s two children were killed in the attack. “I would request the Haryana Chief Minister, Mr Om Prakash Chautala, to generously provide assistance to the bereaved family members like it was done during the Kargil operations,” he said. He said the front would hold a demonstration in New Delhi tomorrow against the double standards of the USA. “We demand that Pakistan should be declared a terrorist state. No aid should be provided to Pakistan,” he said. Mr Bitta observed: “Political terrorism is more dangerous than militant terrorism”. While militants terrorism can be tackled, political terrorism cannot be controlled until and unless a firm and united stand is not taken.” “There has to be unanimity on this issue,” he added. He said he would soon be forwarding a list of volunteers to the Defence Minister. “The list will contain names of persons who will be ready to fight along with the Army against Pakistan,” he said. |
