Hooda questions
HPSC selections Chandigarh, May 7 Talking to newsmen, he said when the Congress would come to power, it would cancel the recruitment done on the basis of the controversial examination. He also announced the constitution of a six-member committee headed by Mr Shadi Lal
Batra, MLA from Rohtak, to inquire into the alleged irregularities committed by the commission and suggest to the party how it could help the aggrieved candidates. The other members of the committee are Mr Bijander Singh, Chairman of the legal cell of the party; Mr Jagat Singh Yadav, Mr Joginder Singh
Duhan, Mr Narender Singh and Mr Manjeet Dalal. Alleging that the functioning of the HPSC was not transparent, Mr Hooda said its members were not able to work independently as they were under pressure from the Chief Minister. Answering a question, he said till Mrs Sonia Gandhi had confidence in him, he would continue to head the party in the State. Earlier, he led activists of the minority wing of the Congress in observing a day-long fast here to demand the ouster of the Gujarat Chief Minister, Mr Narendra Modi. Among those who observed the fast was Mr Jagdeep Singh Cheema, Chairman of the minority wing. |
CM’s kin alleges victimisation Chandigarh, May 7 Mr Ravi Singh, elder son of the Chief Minister’s estranged brother, Mr Pratap Singh, today alleged that he had been falsely implicated in an attempt to murder case by the Sirsa police at the behest of Mr Chautala and his younger son, Mr Abhey Singh, who is the MLA from the Rori Assembly constituency. Mr Ravi Singh was talking to newsmen here after he was released on bail by a Sirsa court. He was arrested on April 10 and was granted bail on May 4. Interestingly, unlike his father, Mr Ravi Singh had always been close to Mr Chautala and his sons. In the last Assembly elections, he had campaigned vigorously in the Narwana Assembly constituency on behalf of Mr Chautala, forcing his father to withdraw. Accompanied by his father, Mr Ravi Singh told newsmen that the complainant, Mr Sukhbir Singh, had alleged that a murderous attack was made on
him (for which Mr Ravi Singh was held responsible) on April 1. The complainant was later admitted to a hospital, where doctors declared him unfit to make a statement for a couple of days. The FIR was lodged on April 3, leading to the arrest of Ravi Singh on April 10. Mr Pratap Singh and Mr Ravi Singh said later they found that the assertions of the complainant being unfit to make a statement were false because on the day the alleged murderous assault was made on him, the complainant had appeared for an examination from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. He also appeared for some examinations on later dates for which a “writer” was allowed to him by Kurukshetra University. Mr Pratap Singh said he brought these facts to the notice of the court in the shape of an affidavit. The court directed the investigating officer to verify the contents of the affidavit. The report of the officer tallied with the facts in the affidavit. It was only after this that the court released Mr Ravi Singh on bail. Mr Ravi Singh alleged that he was implicated in the false case so that he would pressurise his father into entering a compromise with Mr Chautala and drop his complaint to the National Human Rights Commission regarding the illegal construction of a road on
his (Mr Pratap Singh’s) land, leading to the farm house of the Chief Minister. |

He said that amount under dispute was about Rs 2.40 crore. The outstanding dues in Ambala Secondary Switching Area (SSA) which comprises Ambala, Panchkula and Yamunanagar were about Rs 4.50 crore. “There is a proposal to introduce mobile services in Haryana during the current financial year. During the first phase of Cellular Mobile Telecom Service (CMTS) project, capacity of 43,000 lines would be added and capacity of about 68,000 lines will be added during the second phase of the project,” he said. Mr Jethwani said that work of installation of Mobile Switching Centre (MSC) at Panipat was under progress. “In the first phase, the coverage to mobile services will be provided through 100 sites,” he said. During the current financial year, Haryana Circle had planned to provide additional capacity of 1,87,400 lines. Proposals
on traffic regulations discussed Ambala, May 7 Among others, Deputy Commissioner D.D. Gautam, SP Manoj Yadava and businessmen of the Sadar area attended the meeting. Mr Manoj Yadava suggested certain measures which could help in easing congestion and regulating vehicular movement. Mr Yadava said that one way traffic could be introduced from Vijay Ratan chowk to the main market. "Since Ambala Sadar had been planned by the Britishers on a grid format, it would be easy to introduce one way traffic," he said. He said that businessmen unanimously decide not to display their wares on the road. "Once wares are displayed on the road, there is hardly any space left for parking, which leads to congestion. Incidentally, all over the country, the consumer is preferring to move away from congested markets to new bigger markets where there is ample parking space," he observed. Mr Yadava pointed out that over the years, the number of cars have gone up and there is a tendency for motorists to take parking for granted. "I request the civil administration to ensure that whenever a commercial building is constructed, it must have sufficient parking space," he said. "More parking zones can be created so that people can park in the free parking area", he added. He stated that rehris prove to be a traffic hazard. "Under the municipal bylaws, the licence to a rehri is given to be mobile and not to remain stationary. We can regulate the movement of rehris on the main road and the crossing since it leads to congestion. We can preferably develop a rehri market," he said. He also said that restricting entry to heavy vehicles in the market can be considered. The Deputy Commissioner said that the proposals had been mooted so that either one or a combination could be implemented in the Sadar market area. "These proposals would help in de-congesting the market place. The Army had agreed to fully cooperate with suggestions," he said. Mr Gautam said that the cleaning of the drains would start and finish by this month. "An expert from Chandigarh had come today to have a look at the drains and we are going to have the drains cleaned. However, for effective cleaning of drains, it must be stressed that the shopkeepers must remove the extended 'thada'. The cooperation of the businessmen is sought by us for carrying out the cleaning operation," he said. |
