10 Cong workers die in TN mishap
Chennai, June 16
At least 10 Congress workers were killed and 15 others injured in a collision between a van and a private bus in Villuppuram district of Tamil Nadu today. The Villuppuram police said the workers in the overcrowded van were coming here to attend the “Dalit Renaissance Workshop” organised by Congress legislator Polur Varadhan while the bus was proceeding to Ginjee when the mishap occurred on the Tiruvannamalai-Ginjee Road. Mob lathicharged
Kanpur, June 16
The police lathicharged a mob here last night which was protesting against prolonged power cuts. Annoyed with disturbed supply of electricity in certain densely-populated pockets for the past four days, a group gathered at Ghantaghar and blocked the busy street. UNI

PCO owner freed
Kanpur, June 16
The police today released a PCO owner, who was picked up yesterday evening for alleged links with the ISI, for want of evidence. Mr R. P. Singh, SSP, said Faizan Ali, son of the ‘Imam’ of a mosque here, was picked up by the investigating agencies from the Meston Road yesterday. UNI
