Rao camp accuses CM of fuelling groupism,
Gurgaon/Rewari, January 24 The rally is slated to be addressed by Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and other senior functionaries of the Congress government in the state. Accusing the Chief Minister of fuelling factionalism in the party organisation by ignoring the sitting MP from the constituency in organising the rally, Rao Inderjit's vocal supporter and former state Congress spokesperson Ved Parkash Vidrohi has even sought action against Hooda by the party leadership. In a statement issued here, he has maintained that Bawal, the venue for the proposed Vikas Rally, was part of the Gurgaon parliamentary constituency, which is represented in Parliament by Rao Inderjit Singh. "The concurrence of the Gurgaon MP becomes all the more significant in view of the fact that the Bawal constituency is represented in the state Assembly by an Opposition MLA," he asserted. The supporters of Rao Inderjit, a Congress stalwart from the Ahirwal belt comprising the South Haryana region, as well as those of other party leaders from the region, have also been alleging bias against the region in developmental works and sidelining of their leaders for quite some time. Inderjit himself has raised questions over the purposefulness of the rally. At a recent media interaction, he had asserted that the rally would not do any good to the people of the area unless their major demands were fulfilled by the state leadership. He said he had already sent a communique to the Chief Minister regarding the longstanding demands of the area, which included recommencement of a Research Centre at the HAU’s Regional Research Station (RRS) at Bawal, restoration of the discontinued Agriculture College at the RRS, upgradation of the Bawal tehsil into a subdivision, establishment of an ITI and a polytechnic at Bawal, an industrial hub of the district, and upgradation of the local Community Health Centre to a 100-bedded hospital.

Former varsity teacher spreads awareness
Bhiwani, January 24 Dr Goyal, who heads an NGO, Atomic Power Evolution Awareness Foundation (APEAF), and better known as “Bharat Kee Parmanu Saheli", has been organising seminars and holding rallies to make people aware of the importance of nuclear power in the country. She has been able to mobilise schoolchildren from Bhiwani to hold rallies in the town to make people aware of the energy needs of the country and on how other sources of producing power were becoming scarce. Dr Goyal has been holding seminars on this issue in various schools and colleges of Bhiwani for the past two and a half months and has so far organised more than 30 such meetings. Recently, she organised a “Parmanu Urja Jagriti Mahautsava” in the Tibrewal Auditorium of Bhiwani to create awareness among people on the safety of nuclear power plants and also on their necessity in view of the declining natural resources like coal and other fuels. A former university teacher from Jaipur, Dr Goyal started her NGO, APEAF, after the Fukushima nuclear disaster led a lot of negative publicity about nuclear power plants throughout the country.“Since, the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) is coming up with an atomic power plant at Gorakhpur in Fatehabad, I decided to launch an awareness drive in the districts close to the proposed unit. After Bhiwani, I plan to shift my focus to Fatehabad and Sirsa districts,” she said while talking to The Tribune. “The APEAF has in place a public awareness programme focused on reaching out to the public and placing the facts about atomic energy in a correct perspective, in a transparent and comprehensive manner,” Dr Goyal said about her foundation. She said these awareness programmes had a multi-pronged approach aimed at providing scientifically accurate information and the real-world knowledge in the context of nuclear power plants. She said the main emphasis of her awareness drive was to make people feel that nuclear energy was clean and safe and the country needed it for its development.

Rohtak, January 24 “The authorities do not pay any attention to the deterioration of public property,” says Raj Singh, a social and political activist based here. He said despite the fact that the local administration had taken up renovation and beautification of the spot, the officials concerned ought to have completed the work of getting the statue painted atleast. “The spot where the statue is located is called Subhas Chowk and is situated in the heart of the town with the district headquarters located within a stone’s throw,” he added. The district authorities had spent several lakhs on the renovation of the spot a couple of years back when the statue was shifted several metres behind to make the road wider around it. Erection of a boundary wall of steel frame and some lighting work had been part of the renovation work. “The maintenance and upkeep of some other statutes and similar public spots has not been up to the mark,” claimed Jagjit Dagar, a local resident. He said the ‘Vijay Dwar’ constructed by the local administration in the memory of the martyrs of Kargil war at Shantmai Chowk had also been poor. The outer wall has already caved in at several points and the gate gives an untidy look. The gate was constructed about nine years ago.
