Arms meant for delivery in Trilokpuri seized

New Delhi, November 5
The seizure of two pistols and live rounds from two men who were supposed to deliver them to someone in violence-hit Trilokpuri today, raised concerns that anti-social elements are still at work in the locality which is slowly limping toward normalcy.

According to the police, Amit Kumar Singh (33) and Satendra Dabas (29), residents of Meerut, were nabbed by the East Delhi Police from near the New Ashok Nagar Metro station and two pistols and 10 live rounds were recovered from their possession.

"We were keeping a tight vigil to track suspicious activities in east Delhi following what had happened in Trilokpuri. We had received a tip off about arms being carried in a Swift car. When our team signalled them to stop, they tried to flee, but we intercepted them," said a police officer.

The duo told the police that the arms were to be supplied to a contact in the Trilokpuri area. "We are trying to ascertain to whom these arms were being supplied to and from where they were procured," the officer said.

Clashes sparked by a drunken brawl on Diwali night near a religious structure in Trilokpuri left around 70 people, including 56 policemen, injured. Seven people had suffered gunshot injuries as bullets were fired by rioters during the clashes.

Police looking for seven youths

The Delhi Police have identified seven youths whose acts on Diwali night led to the riots in Trilokpuri.

Earlier, the police said five youths (three Muslims and two Hindus) had thrown stones and pieces of flesh on a "Mata ki Chauki", a makeshift dias for idol's worship, that led to clashes between the two communities in Block 20 in Trilokpuri.

"The two Hindu youths, whose names had surfaced, have not been found to be involved in the act of throwing stones and flesh on Mata ki Chauki," said a police officer.

"Seven other youths belonging to the other community were involved in the act but they are absconding," the officer said.

The police imposed prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the CrPC, banning any gathering or movement of any group of people, in Trilokpuri, which comprises 36 blocks, after the clashes in which over 60 people were injured. — IANS

Nursery admission: HC restrains govt from issuing fresh guidelines

New Delhi, November 5
The Delhi High Court today stopped the city government from issuing fresh notification for nursery admission for the upcoming academic year in the national Capital on a plea challenging the last year's guidelines.

Justice Manmohan said the Education Department, Delhi government, will not introduce any "fresh guidelines" till the judgment is pronounced.

"No fresh guidelines till the judgment is pronounced," the court said, adding that it would deliver the verdict soon.

The court was hearing a batch of petitions filed by the parents against guidelines issued by the Lieutenant Governor on December 18, 2013, on nursery admission.

The court, which reserved its order after hearing arguments from both the sides, also said the petitions will become infructuous, if the government issues fresh guidelines.

"All the exercise carried out till date will be futile," it said.

Under the earlier system, out of a total 100 points, 70 were given if the child lives in the neighbourhood of the school, additional 20 were given if a sibling is studying there, five points more if either parent is an alumnus and another five points if it is an inter-state transfer case.

Draw of lots were held at each point level.

Thereafter, the government had on February 27 issued an order abolishing the five points that were being awarded in inter-state transfer cases. — PTI

Parties gear up for polls
BJP will focus on development: Upadhyay
Tribune News Service

New Delhi, November 5
Delhi BJP unit president Satish Upadhyay said in the Delhi Assembly elections, likely to be held next year, the party will concentrate on development-based politics and the work done during five-month rule of the party at the Centre.

The development work done in Gujrat, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh will be on put before the electorates in Delhi.

He said to give tough fight to its opponents, the AAP and the Congress, the BJP has decided to focus on people working with unorganised sectors to increase the party's support base in the city.

He said lakhs of people, who are working with unorganised sectors as newspaper hawkers, domestic helps, sanitation workers, priests, drivers of e-rickshaws and auto-rickshaws and those working in certain weekly markets, play vital role to decide the fate of any political party in Delhi.

Upadhyay also said the main contest will be held between "anarchist and opportunist parties."

Attacking the AAP, Upadhyay said its leader Arvind Kejriwal has lost his political relevance, his party organization is in disarray and many party leaders and volunteers have deserted him.

AAP legislators and senior leaders consider Manish Sisodiya is politically stronger than Kejriwal.

He said the BJP does not want to comment on internal politics of any party but it is a fact that today "names of leaders connected with the 1984 anti-Sikh riots were proposed for the core team for the Delhi Assembly elections by the Congress but later on these names were withdrawn due to the pressure of media and the people.

This indicates opportunism of the party.

AAP says Kejriwal is CM candidate
Tribune News Service

New Delhi, November 5
Exuding confidence of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) getting a clear mandate in the assembly polls, its chief Arvind Kejriwal said he will be the party's "face" for the election campaign and indicated that he will be the chief ministerial nominee.

"There is no reason why there would be a change," Kejriwal said, adding that the party will take a final decision on the issue.

Kejriwal (46), who led the AAP to a stunning debut in the assembly polls in December last year, said there was no reason why there would be a change in the chief ministerial nominee though a final decision on it would be taken by the party.

Kejriwal said result of a survey carried out one-and-half month ago showed that the party will get 47 per cent vote-share against BJP's 37 per cent, if elections were held.

"People remember those 49 days. It was a kind of dream for people. That is why they will vote for us. We are confident of getting a clear majority," he said.

The BJP has already announced that it will not project any chief ministerial candidate and will fight the polls under collective leadership. The Congress also said it will not have any chief ministerial nominee.

However, he admitted that quitting the government after the 49-day rule was the "biggest mistake" of his political career and admitted that his party made a wrong "political estimation" as it thought elections will be held immediately.

"Resigning was the biggest mistake. People had high hopes and their hopes were shattered. It is easy to analyse things in retrospect. We thought elections will be held immediately after our resignation," he said.

The AAP had made a dream debut in the assembly polls last year winning 28 seats riding on anti-corruption plank and promise to provide clean governance.
