CBSE syllabus to include road safety
New Delhi November 2 "The curriculum drafts have been prepared and the chapters will be included in the books prepared by the International Road Federation (IRF), a Geneva-based global body working for safer roads worldwide along with the Institute of Road Traffic Education (IRTE). A group of school teachers will also help in this plan. We have sent the drafts to the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), CBSE and Union Human Resource Minister Smriti Irani for evaluation and incorporation," said K. K. Kapila, chairman, International Road Federation (IRF). Initially the chapter on road safety will be included in four subjects - Social Science, Hindi, English and Maths for classes VI to X. "We have hired a team of experienced teachers from different schools in Delhi as well as illustrators to design the chapters coupled with graphics and exercises. Once the ministry gives its approval, these chapters will be integrated into the existing curriculum with approval from the CBSE curriculum committee," said Kapila. "Road safety will be integrated into normal syllabus with no extra classes. The chapters will educate students on how to cross a street safely and will also comprise lessons on understanding traffic signs, highway codes, road norms and traffic hazards," he said. "It is a big initiative in educating the next generation about traffic safety. The inclusion of the chapter on road safety will help reduce accidents in the Capital if teachers, who are already being imparted training, can teach traffic lessons to students. Apart from lessons, mock plays, action songs and live demonstration will be part of the curriculum," said Rohit Baluja , president, IRTE. |
DU students to be trained for Swachh campaign
New Delhi, November 2 "We have tied up with Sulabh International (SI) to train 200 students in various aspects of cleanliness so that they can take forward the skills and practices to the adopted villages as peer educators," said Rajesh, HOD of DU's Adult Continuing Education and Extension (DACEE) wing. The weeklong training programme is being conducted by DACEE in coordination with the Swachh committee at DU and SI, an organisation which works in the area of sanitation and waste management. "DU colleges have been asked to nominate five students each who will be trained under the programme to become 'certified trained volunteers'. They will further conduct cleanliness training programmes in the villages," he added. In line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan, the varsity had launched its own 'DU Swachhata Abhiyan' on October 2. A 20-member committee had been constituted as part of the drive to spread awareness about cleanliness, hygiene and safety. "The swachh committee is now working with the SI team to draft modules for the training programme, which will cover areas like sanitation, hygiene, safety, nutrition, innovation, leadership and proper procedure for disposal of waste material, among others," Rajesh said. "We will be adopting more villages in due course once the target of cleanliness is achieved in these villages," he added. The varsity had earlier joined hands with the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to undertake the cleanliness drive on its campuses and roped in around 100 workers from the civic bodies to help the students and teachers towards that end. "The cleanliness programme in the villages by these volunteers will run parallel to the campaign for cleanliness on campus," Rajesh said.

Police thwart trouble after ‘Mahapanchayat’
New Delhi, November 2 Locals alleged that the procession caused traffic jams in the market area and hindrances into their business. The 'Mahapanchayat' was organised in order to ensure that the procession takes an alternate route instead of passing through town market. However, timely intervention by the police ensured that the tension was nipped in the bud. "The route of the procession has been diverted with mutual consent of both the communities. "Additional forces will be deployed along the routes and all precautionary measures will be taken to make sure that peace prevails in the area," said a senior police official. We will not let peace and harmony disrupted in the area at any cost, he said. Tensions had erupted in Trilokpuri on Diwali after a drunken brawl near a religious structure.

Upadhyay hails PM's address on radio
New Delhi, November 2 Upadhyay said people of the country have been touched by the Prime Minister's words that "we can no longer suppress the sensitive issue that drugs are affecting the youth or that we have to make slums clean as the poor suffer most due to infections and dirt. On black money too, his words have reassured the nation that the government will leave no stone unturned to bring back the wealth of the country". AAP decries Modi's response on black money
The AAP congratulates people who posted questions that they wanted Prime Minister Narendra Modi to respond to in his monthly radio address "Man Ki Baat". Most of the questions were about government's 'U' turn on black money. While the AAP appreciates that bowing to the demand of people, the Prime Minister spoke on the issue of black money, what he said on the issue was very disappointing. During his election campaign, Modi was quoting exact figures of black money stashed away in foreign accounts. He had also been claiming that once the money came back, each Indian would get Rs 15 lakh. It is shocking that in today's address, Modi said he had no clue as to how much money was deposited in illegal bank accounts abroad, a statement issued by the AAP said. What surprises the people is the fact that when the BJP was out of power, it claimed to have all the information as well as figures about black money. From inflation to black money, it had a road map for everything. After assuming power, the party that they have no figures, no road map, the party asked. |

The police said after taking Rs 3.10 crore from the complainant, the accused got the property transferred in their own name. The accused duped another person - Rajini Jain - in the same fashion and took Rs. 1.50 crore by making promise that they would get this property transferred in her name from the DLF, but this had not happened. Both father and son were evading arrest and used to come home only late at night. After constant vigil and inputs, both the accused were arrested yesterday. Uncertainty on dissolution of assembly persists
New Delhi, November 2 Bypolls will be held for three seats of the Delhi Assembly, Tughlakabad, Krishna Nagar and Mehrauli. The uncertainty on the dissolution of assembly has confused all the leaders. According to the party sources, most of the leaders hope that the assembly will be dissolved soon and the city will go in for fresh polls. The notification for the by-elections to the three seats can be withdrawn in case the Lieutenant Governor (LG) or the Supreme Court decides to dissolve the assembly. On October 30, the Lieutenant Governor informed the Supreme Court that he will hold a meeting of the leaders of all political parties on the issue of government formation. The polling for the by-elections will be done on November 25 while the counting will be done on December on 23. |
DJB imposes taxes in name of new connections: URD
New Delhi, November 2 R. D. Pal, general secretary of RWA Shashtri Park Extension, said that the DJB is recovering various types of taxes in the name of new water connections. The consumers themselves get the pipelines laid, meters fitted and roads repaired. In such a situation, there is no justification for recovering money from the people, the URD said. The URD president, Jitender Tyagi, said that two FIRs have been lodged by the anti-corruption branch for enquiring into the deal of new MMR meters and now the CBI is investigating it. Resident welfare associations have written a letter to the LG, urging him to stop installing new meters, but no action has been taken. Tyagi said if the DJB or the private companies do not stop 'illegal' tax recovery, the URD will intensify its protest. When asked, DJB spokesperson Sanjan Cheema said that she was not aware of the taxes imposed on customers. |
