3 drug peddlers jailed:A court sent three drug peddlers to jail on Saturday. Resham Singh of Sukhera Bodla village (Jalalabad) was jailed for 10 years under the NDPS Act and penalised Rs 1 lakh. Shiv Kumar Rinwa of Daulatpura village was imprisoned for two years for smuggling 20 kg poppy husk. Jasbir Singh of Dhaani BKDB village was jailed for 5 years in an NDPS case.

Woman commits suicide:Kiran (22) of Kirada village in Hanumangarh died after consuming poison on Saturday. Kiran and her husband Moti Lal (24) were shifted to the local Civil Hospital after they were found unconscious at their house. Kiran died at the hospital and her husband is critical. The police couldn't determine why the couple took the extreme step.

Man held for rape:Rinku of Uttam Vihar Colony near Nai Abadi was held under Sections 376/506 of the IPC for allegedly molesting his sister-in-law's daughter. The victim alleged she was sexually assaulted at a pilgrimage. She has been examined at the Civil Hospital.

Solid-waste mgmt project:
The Jalandhar cluster under the solid-waste management project of the Local Bodies' Department would become operational from November 5. Under the project, electricity and manure would be produced from the garbage collected from homes. Local Bodies' Minister Anil Joshi said there would be eight solid-waste management clusters in the state. The fourth cluster out of these would become operational at Jalandhar from November 5, he added.

Hoshiarpur
Man kills brother:
The Garhshankar police have booked a man for allegedly killing his brother over a farmland dispute at Darapur village. Deceased's wife Piari said she and her son went to serve tea to her husband Harbhajan Singh (70) in the fields on Saturday evening. They saw her brother-in-law Joginder Singh quarrelling with Harbhajan. Joginder later attacked Harbhajan with a shovel and killed him. She said the accused had some dispute over farmland with her husband and both had filed police complaints against each other. A case has been registered.

Player honoured:
Punjab State Power Corporation Limited employee and badminton player Raj Kumar was honoured by senior PSPCL officials for bringing laurels to the country by clinching medals at the Para Asian Games held from October 18 to 24 at Incheon, South Korea. Kumar won a silver medal in the men's doubles along with Rakesh Pandey of Haryana and a silver medal in mixed doubles along with Parul of Gujarat.

Book SGPC chief: Shiv Sena:
The Shiv Sena, Punjab, has reacted sharply to the SGPC act of honouring families of former CM Beant Singh's killers on the death anniversary of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. It has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to immediately ban the SGPC and book its president Avtar Singh Makkar for sedition. Sena state vice-president Inderjit Karwal alleged the SGPC was playing in the hands of the Badals  who wanted to shove the state into a crisis again.

Police dig out 10-day-old girl’s body:
The police dug out a body of a 10-day-old girl and sent it for postmortem on Sunday. Police said the infant’s mother was breastfeeding her when milk blocked her windpipe. The deceased’s father, however, doesn’t believe in it, so the body was dug out on his complaint.

Panipat
Bengal resident caught with fake currency:CIA staff of the district police caught a West Bengal resident, Javed, and recovered fake currency notes of Rs 38,000 from him at Kala Amb, near Sanauli Morh, on UP road. Police said the accused had been caught on Friday evening after a tip-off. An FIR has been registered against him.

Chhatarpati award for Ravish Kumar:
This year’s Ram Chander Chhatarpati memorial award for journalism will be conferred on Ravish Kumar, Executive Editior of NDTV India, here on November 22. The award is given every year in memory of slain journalist Ram Chander Chattarpati, who fell prey to the bullets of assassins on November 21, 2002. Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh is among those facing criminal trial in Chhatarpati’s murder.

Chamba
bus mishap toll 17:
The death toll of the Chamba bus accident rose to 17 as three people succumbed to their injuries at Chamba hospital on Sunday. The deceased have been identified as Lal Singh, Nirdosh Kumar and Hemu. The private bus had rolled downed a 700-meter gorge in Salooni Tehsil of Chamba district on Saturday.

Dharamsala
Mother, girl die in mishap:
A 26-year-old woman and her daughter were killed when their Maruti car rolled down a 300-feet gorge at Garolam, in Bharmour area of Chamba district, on Sunday evening. The deceased are Anjana Devi (26) and Sneh Lata (4). Anjana’s husband Kalyan Singh (35), who was injured seriously, has been admitted to Chamba hospital. Police said the family was returning home after visiting some relatives when the incident took place about 5.30 pm.

Mandi
Man held with charas:
The police arrested a man with cannabis from Charkufri, under Karsog police station, in the district on Sunday. Ram Lal, a resident of Jokanali, under Thunag tehsil of the district, was arrested with 200 gm charas at a naka. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered against Ram at the Karsog police station and further investigations are on.

Leopard kills sheep, goat:A leopard killed two sheep and a goat of Bhagat Ram, a resident of Diyadi village, under Tilli Kehanwaal panchayat of the district last night. The leopard dragged away all three animals from the cowshed and dumped them after some distance, he said. Residents of the area urged the Forest Department to capture the leopard as it had killed many animals earlier also.
