Trilokpuri: Police hunt for 5 men
New Delhi, October 27 The Delhi Police also relaxed prohibitory orders, banning the "unlawful assembly" of five and more people in that locality. "The prohibitory orders issued under Section 144 of the CrPc were relaxed today to make people buy vegetables and milk. It is a sign of bringing life to normalcy," said a senior police officer, adding that there were no incidents of violence last night and this morning. The police are planning to relax the orders for close to two hours tomorrow, depending on the situation at Trilokpuri. According to another police officer, five milk vans of Mother Dairy were sent to Trilokpuri, as all the nearby markets remained closed. Later in the day, the police also opened some Mother Dairy stores, which were selling milk and vegetables. Outside two such stores located between Blocks 17 and 18, which witnessed heavy stone pelting, there were long queues of women, carrying empty milk cans, waiting to be filled. Men were not allowed to even stand near the queues. Anokhi Devi, a 44-year-old woman, who was waiting in one of the queues said that she was falling short of the groceries at home. "When the violence broke out, all the markets in this colony were closed. I had to borrow vegetables from my neighbours. That is what most of us were doing," she said. Devendra Kumar, a 58-year-old autorickshaw driver, who stays at one of the blocks where there were no incidents of violence, said "The police had locked the area. I had to walk to a market in Mayur Vihar to buy a packet of biddi. The police did not allow me to take my autorickshaw outside my block. I had returned home from work on Diwali morning and only today the police allowed me to take my autorickshaw outside the locality," he said. There were also people facing a shortage of money, because the ATMs were closed in the locality. A 20-year-old boy named Rohit Gupta said, "All the ATMs in the locality are closed. My father works in Noida and he gets the money from there." According to the police, an ATM in Trilokpuri was damaged during the clashes. Two shops, including an apparel showroom called "A to Z Collection Clothes Shop", were burnt. The police are not sure if the shops were set on fire by a mob or if there was a short-circuit. The delegation that was led by Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) president Arvinder Singh Lovely, asked the Delhi Police Commissioner to register an FIR and arrest those responsible for stoking the clashes. Congress spokesperson Abhiskeh Manu Singhvi said the clashes evidenced the recent trends of polarization in states that were due to go for elections. "We demand an independent inquiry into the incident in Trilokpuri and also want to know why Delhi which has remained peaceful for all these years is suddenly witnessing tensions," Singhvi said. Yamuna cleaning plan set in motion
New Delhi, October 27 The implementation of the interceptor sewer project would ensure that around 70 per cent of pollution going into the Yamuna is prevented, thus improving the water quality in the river. The project involves the laying of interceptor sewers in a length of 59 km along the three major drains, Najafgarh, Supplementary and Shahdara. The interceptor will convey sewage flowing from 180 subsidiary small drains to the nearest Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) and will ensure that only treated sewage goes into the major drains. The project was launched by Union Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu. "This is a very big step towards cleaning the Yamuna in the national Capital. Today the river is very dirty and we want to clean it and this plant is helpful in this regard. With this plant, 60 per cent cleaning of the Yamuna will be completed and the government has plans to clear its remaining part. Our government aims to clean the Ganga as well," he said.
