PGI doctor devises technique to remove glass pieces from eye

A PGI doctor has devised a new technique to remove glass pieces that accidentally enter the eye. Considering that the removal of glass (intraocular foreign bodies) with intraocular forceps (that cost Rs 20,000) is one of the most challenging vitreo-retinal surgeries with a high rate of complication, the doctor used a soft tip needle with active aspiration on 14 patients and successfully restored their vision.

A local court today sentenced a youth to two year-imprisonment for hitting a traffic policeman on duty. The court sentenced Lovpreet to two years while two others, Vineet and
Bhaskar, were acquitted of all charges. The case was registered on June 28, 2013, when a traffic constable was injured after being hit by a car at the light point in Sector 28.
