Court acquits youth in NDPS case
Chandigarh, October 27 The court acquitted 23-year-old Vicky, a resident of Sector 56. The case was registered two years ago by the police of the Sector 39 police station when the police laid a trap near Sector 56 and arrested Vicky. His search led to the recovery of 2 kg of ganja and 150 gram charas and then he was booked under various sections of the NDPS Act. None of the charges could be proved in court following which the accused was acquitted. |

Rs 1 lakh stolen from NGO’s office in Sec 22-C
Chandigarh, October 27 The theft took place in the ground floor of the house from where NGO Rani Breast Cancer Trust (RBCT) operates its work. The incident came to light, on Monday morning, when one of the employees opened the door. In the initial investigation, the forensic team of the Chandigarh Police had taken the finger prints and during the course of action, it was observed that that the thieves or had sneaked into the house through the back door. The accused cut open the wire mesh of the door with a blade and went directly in the office where the cash was kept. The accused broke open the drawer and fled away with the cash. The accused also targeted a donation box and took away high denomination currency. Notably, the accused did not touch the computer, new LED TV, printer or any another material in the house. During the investigation, the police also spotted a working CCTV camera, on the rear side of another house that could help in identifying the accused. The police have registered a case of theft at the Sector 17 police station and are observing the CCTV footage. “We are looking into every aspect. The accused seems to be familiar with the spot.” said Inspector Desh Raj of Sector 22. |

City police register six complaints of theft, burglary
Chandigarh, October 27 In a snatching incident, two unknown occupants of a motorcycle sped away after snatching a mobile phone from a resident of Mohali. Pankaj Bhardwaj reported to the police that the incident took place while he was going home. When he reached near the park of Sector 37, two unknown occupants on a black-coloured motorcycle snatched his mobile phone. A case has been registered at the Sector 39 police station. In a burglary incident, some unknown persons have stolen gold bangles, one gold chain, one gold locket, two gold rings, one Titan watch, Rs 10,000, one computer and some gift items from a resident of Sector 37. Complainant, Lalit Jindal told to police that the items had been stolen from his residence in between October 22 to 26, while he was out of station. On returning, he found that the locks of his house were broken. In another such incident, Sudarshan Singh, a resident of Mauli Jagran, reported that someone had stolen two LPG cylinders from his residence. While Gaurav Kumar, a resident of Mundi Kharar, Distt-Mohali, reported that someone had stolen 30 compressors from his godown at Sector 52. In a vehicle theft case registered at the Sector 3 police station, Naveen Sharma, a resident of Hallo Majra, reported that someone had stolen his motocycle (HR-21C-6854) from the parking lot of Sukhna Lake.

Abhishek’s ton powers Jalandhar to win
Chandigarh, October 27 Riding high on Gupta’s 115 off 187 with 2 sixes and 10 boundaries, the Jalandhar side registered a 36-run win over Chandigarh. Batting first, the Jalandhar side made 258 for 9 in the allotted 50 overs. Besides Gupta, Mandeep Singh (senior) contributed 38 runs while Pargat chipped in 23 runs. For the bowling side, Siddharth Kaul was the pick of the day who claimed 3 for 49 while Gurinder Gaggi grabbed 2 for 52. In reply, the Chandigarh team bundled out for 222 in 49.4 overs. Shashikant beats Parveen in tennis
Chandigarh, October 27 In another match, CHART trainee Krishan Hooda fought hard before naming the match against Sidhart Goel. Krishan easily named the first set 6-0. However, he failed to overpower his rival in the second set. Goel win the match 6-3 with levelling the match 1-1. In the decider, Krishan used his experience and by using net touching shots won the set 6-1. He conceded only one game in the last set. In the girls’ (U-14) singles category, CHART trainee Bindu Kulhria defeated another CHART trainee Nikita Kharangra in straight sets 6-4, 6-3. Sehajveer Bhandal beat Amreen Sidhu in a long-rallied match. The winner lost the first set 3-6. However, in the next two sets she bounced back strongly to win the game (6-1 and 6-0) before naming the match. Ranveer pips Karan, qualifies for nationals
Chandigarh, October 27 Ranveer overpowered Karan 50-5 and 53-18. With this win, he becomes the first player, in the age of 10 years, to qualify for four events in the nationals, including sub-junior billiards and snooker (U-18) and junior billiards and snooker (U-21) category. In another encounter of junior billiards, Tanurag defeated Ishwer in the first two straight frames (60-32) and 60-24. In the first frame, Tanurag won the frame while using his experience and in the second frame Tanurag again dominated the proceedings. In the senior billiards category, Satnam Singh thrashed Mandeep Makkar by winning the frames 2-0. In another senior billiards clash, Sumit Talwar defeated Indian Oil’s Arif Akhtar (3-2), a former India No. 6. In the first frame Akhtar was in good touch and made a break of 49 to steal the frame.
