Jal board prepares summer action plan
New Delhi, April 22 The DJB has also paid special attention to improve efficiencies of its water tanker services by optimizing the tanker filling capacity at each filling point location. It plans to increase the number of trips to more than 5,000 trips per day in the peak summer as compared to 4,100 trips per day last summer. This is being done to meet the requirement on account of the rise in demand of both planned and unplanned areas. For improving water tanker services, the DJB has constructed 23 additional filling point hydrants and 145 tanker filling hydrants resulting in marked improvement in the tanker filling efficiency. In order to improve the monitoring of the movement of the tankers, the Delhi Integrated Multi-Modal Transit System (DIMTS) has developed an efficient monitoring mechanism for the DJB. The schedule of the tankers is uploaded on the DJB's website to make the tanker delivery service more transparent and efficient. The DJB maintains 24 water emergency control rooms situated at strategic locations to cover all parts of the city. These control rooms work round-the-clock. The board has also nominated nodal officers for these control rooms for effective supervision and monitoring of the water emergencies in order to efficiently address the public complaints. The board has also held meetings with the power discoms in order to secure regular power supply to all DJB water facilities such as the water treatment plants and major underground reservoir and pumping stations. The DJB has also reviewed the stock position of consumables such as disinfectants, spare pumps and motors for all the plants and pumping stations. In order to ensure adequate surveillance of quality of water being supplied to the residents of Delhi, the DJB has upgraded all of its 12 water testing laboratories, including six zonal labs, to carryout intensive checks of its water samples at the plants and the consumer end too, ensuring that the water supplied is potable and meets prescribed drinking water standards. |
