DMRC completes 21-mt high crossover viaduct
New Delhi, April 20 He said that construction for crossing over of Metro viaduct at the existing Karkarduma Metro station posed numerous challenges to the civil engineers throughout the project as this is one of the highest crossings of Metro line. The new Metro line (Majlis Park-Shiv Vihar) is crossing the existing (Vaishali- Dwarka) elevated line at 21 metre above the ground and is 10 metre above the existing Metro line. The work was done without disrupting the train services for even a single day. Delhi Metro has crossed the existing Metro line at such a height in a safe and systematic manner with all safety precautions. The launching of girder and erection of span was carried out in a very watchful manner with extra precaution, he said. An extensive round-the-clock CCTV monitoring was done adjacent to the rail track to prevent electrocution and fall of material during crossing. The work was carried out during the shadow block of existing system during non-operating hours after getting all the clearances from the authorities. Delhi Metro is set to achieve more such achievements in its phase III project which is to be completed by 2016, according to the spokesperson. |
Metro to have 200 new frisking booths for women
New Delhi, April 20 Subsequently, they will be placed at all other stations on the Metro network in the national capital region, said a CISF spokesperson. Besides, the CISF has introduced a new mechanism to finetune Delhi Metro security services. The CISF manages security at all the 134 stations. It has deployed close to 5,000 men and women for this task, the spokesperson said. About one dozen such booths have already started functioning and as compared to the previous cloth-draped or hard-board security boxes, these cabins ensure total privacy of the female passengers during frisking, he said. Sources said that the CISF has also developed a new set of security check-up. The X-ray baggage screening machines at select stations are now kept right next to the door-frame metal detectors where the commuters are frisked by CISF jawans. The sources said that by this method, the CISF security man right behind his colleague, who is frisking commuters, is able to clearly analyse the indicators of the metal detector. |

Olympian Sushil Kumar flags off cyclothon
New Delhi, April 20 Senior officers of the ministry and the Delhi Police also participated in the cyclothon. The 5-km cyclothon was organised by the ministry in collaboration with the Delhi Police and the International Road Federation, said a spokesperson for the MRTH. The ministry has been trying to make the issue of road safety a national movement by involving various sections of society and stakeholders. In this common effort towards making roads safer, there has been less attention given to the safety of population using bicycles. Cycles alone account for around 8,000 fatalities every year. The use of reflectors on bicycles ensure that they are visible. Keeping this in mind, it was decided to organize a
