AAP urges LG to invite BJP to form government

New Delhi, April 18
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) today asked LG Najeeb Jung to invite the BJP to form the government in Delhi, if it is really inclined to do so.

"The AAP humbly requests you firstly to invite the leaders of the BJP to ascertain whether they are inclined to form the government in the NCT of Delhi and, if they express their unwillingness or inability to form the government, then you kindly reconsider your earlier recommendation to the President of placing the assembly in a state of suspended animation," party leader and senior advocate Prashant Bhushan said in a letter to Jung.

Bhushan called upon the LG to take an "appropriate decision" in this regard, so that the citizens of Delhi can have a democratically elected government at the earliest.

The AAP is involved in a legal tussle over the LG's decision to place the Delhi Legislative Assembly in suspended animation and has also approached the Supreme Court over the decision. In his resignation letter on February 14, Arvind Kejriwal had asked Jung to dissolve the House and conduct fresh polls.

The apex court too had sought response from the BJP and the Congress and asked them to clarify their stand on the issue.

The party said that the Congress avoided specific query of the Supreme Court over government formation. On the other hand the BJP has said that it has not yet taken any decision on the matter as the party had not been invited by the LG to form the government.

"It would be pertinent here to submit that the BJP, at the time of the resignation of the government led by AAP, had made it very clear to media and in Rajya Sabha that they were neither willing nor in a position to form the government.

"On the other hand, the BJP claims that they have taken no firm stance on the subject, since the Hon'ble Lieutenant Governor has not yet invited them to discuss this issue as yet," he said. — PTI

Three JNU students killed in accident
Tribune News Service

New Delhi, April 18
Three Jawaharlal Nehru University students died when the motorcycle they were riding on slipped and rammed into a tree inside the campus at south Delhi during the early hours of today.

The victims have been identified by the police as Ravi Shankar Chowdhary, Ravi Gupta and Santosh Kumar. Santosh belonged to Ranchi, while the other two youths were from Gaya district in Bihar. They were in their mid-twenties and pursuing a Master's degree in Korean studies at JNU.

The accident took place at about 2.30 am near the university's east gate, which is close to the Vice Chancellor's office.

The police said that the three victims had left the Chandrabhaga hostel a few minutes before 2.30 am. "They were driving around the campus. When they reached the exit gate, their motorcycle slipped and rammed into a tree. One of the victims was thrown at the tree and the other two fell and hit their heads on the nearby pavement," said a police officer, privy to the details of the accident.

The officer said that the guards at the gate informed the health care wing of the university, which sent ambulances to the accident site. The police were informed after the students were taken to the hospital.

According to the police, one of the victims died on the spot. The other two were taken to the Safdarjung Hospital, where they succumbed to their injuries.

Ayush Anand, a friend of the deceased, who was present at the accident site, said, "They had decided to go for a motorcycle ride late in the night, because the weather was good. Their two friends were following them on another motorcycle. When the motorcycle rammed into the tree, the men on the other motorcycle slowed down, otherwise there would have been more casualties."

A security guard at the university's east gate said that last night, the guards near the administration block sent a message to the guard at the east gate, informing him that two motorcycles are moving at a very high speed. "While the message was being relayed, the east gate guard heard a loud bang and saw that the students were crying in pain," said the guard.

The road where the accident took place has several warning boards that read "accident prone area" and "speed limit 25 k".

Boy stabbed to death
Tribune News Service

New Delhi, April 18
A 19-year-old youth was stabbed to death allegedly by four youths acquainted to him, following an argument with them in Patel Nagar, Centre Delhi, last night.

The victim has been identified as Raj Kumar. His father is a scrap dealer. He lived at Baljeet Nagar, which is located near the murder site. He had recently taken his Class X examinations.

The incident took place at 9 pm. The police said that the quarrel and subsequent stabbing took place after Raj "intentionally" tripped over the accused, Sahil (19), while he was walking with his two friends in Patel Nagar. Two youths, Vishal Gurung and Ravindra Verma, both 19-year old, were arrested today, while Sahil is at large.

Raj was walking with a friend near Patel Park. "Sahil was talking over the phone and walking towards them with his two friends. The accused told us that Raj put his leg in his path, causing Sahil to stumble," said a police officer.

Sahil began an argument with Raj, which led to a fist fight. The accused then allegedly stabbed Raj four times before fleeing.

AAP member asks Kejriwal some loaded questions

New Delhi, April 18
AAP founder member Ashwini Upadhyay has posed a number of questions to AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal who is contesting the Lok Sabha elections from Varanasi, challenging BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi.

To begin with, Upadhyay objected to the resignation of Kejriwal from the post of Chief Minister in Delhi without referendum. Instead of amending and strengthening the existing Delhi Lokayukta Bill, Kejriwal chose an unconstitutional path knowing that the bill could not be passed. Is he serious on corruption issue or just doing politics on Janlokpal, Updhyay asked.

He asked why Kejriwal had not got an FIR lodged against the then Chief Minister of Delhi, Sheila Dikshit in 2005 when he had proof of Rs 400-crore scam in Delhi Jal Board.

Upadhyay said IAS officer Ashok Khemka cancelled the land deal of Robert Vadra and was then shunted out. His fellow officer Yuddbir Singh gave a clean chit to Vadra. Later, AAP gave a Lok Sabha ticket to Yuddbir from Hisar. Who is honest: Ashok Khema or Yuddhbir? asked Upadhyay.

Kavita Ramdas is head of Ford Foundation. Why her father Laxmi Ramdas, mother Lalita Ramdas and sister Sagari Ramdas are on the AAP strategy committees, he asked.

Kejriwal had never demanded a judicial or CBI inquiry against all the direct and indirect beneficiaries of Ford. How Manish Sisodia received Rs 44 lakh in 2005 and Rs 32 lakh in 2006 from Ford Foundation while his NGO "Kabir" was registered in November 2007, Upadhyay asked.

He further asked Kejriwal, "Why you and Congress leader Ashish Talwar together visited Germany for 15 days on Congress expenditure? What was the agenda?"

27-yr-old auto driver found murdered
Tribune News Service

New Delhi, April 18
A 27-year-old autorickshaw driver was killed after allegedly being stabbed with a sharp-edged object in BRT Corridor, Southeast Delhi, during the early hours today.

The police suspect that he may have been killed during a robbery bid or a quarrel over the fare.

But a concrete motive for the murder has not surfaced yet.

The victim has been identified as Avinash. His family has told the police that he was to be married next month.

"They said he normally drove his autorickshaw during daytime, but was working overtime to meet the expenses for his wedding," said a police officer.

The body was discovered by a passerby about 2.30 am. The police saw injury marks on the body that appeared to have been inflicted with a sharp object.

The police found auto-rickshaw meter running during the period when the body was discovered, indicating that he had dropped a passenger before his murder. The police therefore believe that the murder could have taken place following a quarrel over the fare. His wallet and mobile phone were found in his possession.

Avinash was rushed to AIIMS Trauma Centre, where he was declared dead at the time of his arrival. The police traced his address to Jaitpur and contacted his elder brother Manish.

The police have registered a case of murder against unknown people. They are trying to ascertain if criminals could be involved in the crime. They are examining the CCTV camera footage of the site of the incident to find out the route that may have been taken by Avinash.
