Abohar
Alert on contaminated water
: The Water Resources Department in Sriganganagar in Rajasthan has sounded an alert on water in Gang feeder carrying hazardous chemical waste from Sirhind canal. Executive Engineer (Rural) VK Jain on Friday informed village panchayats that the water to be released through Shivpur headworks after a 20-day closure may be contaminated. The headworks had been shut down for the repair of the feeder. The consumer bodies have been told not to consume the water till April 25.

Water released in sub-canals: The Irrigation Department on Friday released water in the distributaries and sub-canals of Abohar circle after finishing the annual clean-up operation. It cost the department Rs 10 lakh. The cleaning work was undertaken on April 1 in Panjawa distributary, Azamwala, Jandwala, Bakayanwala and Abohar sub-canals. The other distributaries were cleaned in December last year.

MP’s secy canvasses in area: Sanjiv Talwar, Rajya Sabha MP and BJP leader Avinash Rai Khanna’s political secretary, canvassed in Arora Colony on Friday. Talwar urged the people to vote for the BJP and end the ‘corrupt’ Congress’s rule. He said Narendra Modi was the best candidate to be the Prime Minister of India and that he would rid the 
country of graft.

Dowry death: 4 booked: Four persons have been booked for the death of a woman in an alleged case of dowry in Maujo Majara village on Friday. The deceased’s father Harmesh Lal of Pandori Phangurhe village alleged the victim’s in-laws harassed her for more dowry and killed her. Her husband Varinder Rai lives in Dubai. The accused are the deceased’s father-in-law Gurmej Rai, mother-in-law Gurdev Kaur, brother-in-law Sukhwinder Rai and his wife Manjit Kaur.

Man kills wife:
A 47-year-old man has been booked for allegedly killing his wife and throwing her body in a canal. Sources said Sukha Singh of Maur village suspected his wife of having an extra-marital affair. The victim’s daughter Amandeep Kaur filed the complaint. The accused  is still at large.

IAS officer gets additional charge:
The government has given additional charge to Amit Jha, Principal Secretary, Sports and Youth Affairs Department, as Principal Secretary, Fisheries and Science and Technology Departments.

Driving schools planned at district HQ: The state government has decided to set up driving training schools in all district headquarters at Haryana transport depots. An official spokesman said trained drivers of the Haryana Transport Department would be engaged as driver instructors on a contract basis after their retirement in these driving schools. Initially, two buses with dual driving controls would be provided at each location. The spokesman said seven driving schools were being run at at Murthal, Karnal and Hisar, Gurgaon, Rohtak, Charkhi Dadri (Bhiwani) and Mahendragarh.

Missing boy’s body found
: The police have recovered the body of a seven-year-old boy, who was missing since Thursday, from a pond of Lohchad village. The police have registered a case and started investigations.
