Abohar
Two commit suicide
: The body of Pramod Kumar (35) was found hanging in his house at Dutaranwali village in Abohar. Family members said Pramod had been feeling upset after a road accident sometime ago. Meanwhile, Ramesh Nayak (31) of Kauni village reportedly died after consuming an insecticide at a railway station in neighbouring Peelibanga town in Rajasthan. In another incident, Raja Ram was run over by a rail engine while he crossing a rail track on the Srikaranpur-Sriganganagar section on Monday night, the railway police said.

Attack on arhtiya: 7 booked
:
Two brothers, Balram Singh and Bishan Singh, and five unidentified persons have been booked for assaulting local arhtiya Satinder Pupneja in Rana village on Sunday. However, the accused are still at large. Pupneja in his complaint stated that the brothers had borrowed Rs 9 lakh from him, but failed to return it. He alleged when he confronted the two farmers over the issue, they beat him up.

Injured peacock found:
A peacock was found injured at Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College. “The bird was then taken to GADVASU by Parmeshwar Singh of Forest Department and Bharat Bhushan Singla of PFA, Ludhiana, for treatment. The bird will be shifted to tiger safari after treatment,” saidDr Sandeep K Jain, president, People For Animals, Ludhiana, and Member Animal Welfare Board of India.

Youth drowns:
A youth identified as Pawitra Singh drowned in the Sutlej near Phillaur on Monday. He along with his friend Simran had gone to take a dip in the river. Simran, however, was rescued by  villagers and admitted to a hospital.

Teenaged girl dies: A teenaged girl reportedly consumed poison and died at her house on Monday. It is yet to be ascertained whether she committed suicide or accidentally consumed the poison. The police are investigating the case.

Website launched: The Department of Nephrology, PGIMER, launched its website during a Continuous Medical Education (CME) programme here on Tuesday. KS Chugh, Emeritus Professor, PGI, launched the website, www.nephropgi.org. Over 150 nephrologists from all over the country attended the CME. Recent developments in the field of nephrology, dialysis and transplantation were discussed.

Programme begins: The Ministry of Health & Family Welfare has sponsored a two-week Management Development Programme (MDP) for Health System Strengthening for senior health care functionaries working under different state governments. The programme is being organised by the Department of Hospital Administration, PGIMER, on its premises. Vini Mahajan, principal secretary, Department of Health and Family Welfare, Punjab, inaugurated the programme in the presence of Professor YK Chawla, director, PGIMER, and Professor AK Gupta, medical superintendent, PGIMER.

Labourer electrocuted:
A labourer was electrocuted when he accidentally touched high-tension electricity wires in a house where he was working in the Surya Nagar locality here today. The deceased, Mohammand Jumrati, was carrying a construction implement made of iron and raised it above his head which touched the wires over his head.

Nainital AAP candidate's arrest condemned:
Reacting sharply to the arrest of Balli Singh Cheema, AAP candidate from Nainital, the CPI (ML) said the administration was reacting unnecessarily under the garb of the poll code. In a press rselease issued here, CPI (ML) state secretary Rajendra Pratholi said the arrest of AAP candidate was unnecessary.
