LS candidates: BJP still working on ‘win' model
New Delhi, March 13 According to sources, the BJP is still working on the criterion.
It is brainstorming the steps to have winning candidates only. As per the model, the MLAs should not be given tickets and those who had lost previous parliamentary elections should not be considered either. The winning factor is one of the main criteria for the selection of candidates. The sources said a few days ago, the high command had taken the views of all the 70 Delhi leaders who had contested the recently held assembly elections. The block presidents' views were also taken into account. Keeping in mind the stature of all the sitting Congress MPs and AAP candidates, the BJP is also planning to field heavyweights. In the 2009 elections, the BJP fielded Vijendra Gupta against Kapil Sibal in Chandni Chowk, Vijay Goel against Ajay Maken in New Delhi, Lal Bihari Tewari against Jai Prakash Agarwal in Northeast Delhi, Chetan Chauhan against Sandeep Dikshit in East Delhi, Ramesh Bidhuri against Ramesh Kumar in South Delhi, Jagdish Mukhi against Mahabal Mishra in West Delhi, Meera Kanwari against Krishna Tirath in Northwest Delhi. In those elections, all the BJP candidates lost their seats. The probable names for the Lok Sabha tickets in these polls are: Vijendra, Nalin Kohli and Sudhanshu Mittal in Chandni Chowk; Jai Bhagwan Goel and Lal Bihari Tewari in Northeast Delhi; Anita Arya, Yogendra Chandolia and Udit Raj in Northwest; Ramesh Bidhuri, Sarita Chaudhary and Anil Jain in South Delhi; Parvesh Verma, Jagdish Mukhi, Asish Sood and Hardeep Puri in West; Mahesh Giri, M. J. Akbar and Dr Harsh Vardhan in East Delhi; Meenakshi Lekhi, Nirmala Sitaraman, Subramaniyam
Swami and Kiran Bedi in New Delhi. The proposed model

The commissioner has directed all the manufacturers, packers, importers and dealers to strictly follow the rules. As per the rules, the name and address of the manufacturer, packer or importer should be available on the label of pre-packaged commodity. The inspections were carried in Nehru Place, Gandhi Nagar, Paharganj, Vikas Marg, Chandni Chowk, Karol Bagh and Sadar Bazar. |
DEC to keep tabs on airports for checking black money
New Delhi, March 13 In a slew of initiatives, the commission also directed the authorities concerned to inform it when the political parties hire chartered planes. The enforcement agencies like the Delhi Police and Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) will focus on the movement of cash above Rs 10 lakh or bullion above 1 kg through Delhi airports. "In case of such detections, the security agencies will have to immediately inform the Income Tax department, which in turn, will make necessary verifications. And in case of unsatisfactory replies, cash and bullion will be seized and necessary action will be initiated," said Chief Nodal Officer Ankur Garg. Politicians having the facility of using their vehicles for going right up to the aircraft and are exempted from the safety check of their baggage, will now have to get themselves checked by the security personnel. The DEC today held a high-level meeting with the officials of the Customs, Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS), Airports Authority of India, Delhi Police, CISF and private carrier operators to finalise the standard operating procedures ahead of the Lok Sabha polls. The meeting also discussed the ways to cut the flow of black money in the run-up to the election. |

New Delhi, March 13 The men allegedly passed vulgar comments at her and followed her until her husband arrived, forcing them to flee. The victim works at a beauty parlour in South Delhi. Her husband is employed with a private company. The couple hail from Manipur and have been staying at rented accommodation in Munirka Village for the past two years. The victim told the police that she had gone to say goodbye to her sister at the main road outside Munirka at midnight. She was returning alone to her house when the incident took place. Cong seeks action against civic agencies for violating code
New Delhi, March 13 The party also alleged that the BJP leaders are calling the pensioners to its offices to distribute the cheques and thereby putting pressure on them to vote for the BJP. "The Congress has written a letter in this regard to the CEO to enquire about them. The CEO has been asked to register cases against the BJP leaders in all the three corporations for violation of the Model Code of Conduct," said DPCC spokesperson Mukesh Sharma. Criticising all the three MCDs, Sharma alleged that over Rs 500-crore advertisement has been directly benefiting the BJP, and there was no approval for the unipoles and advertisement sites put across the main roads and bazaars of the city. "The permission given to the advertisement companies to put up unauthorized unipoles was another method to collect funds for the election by the BJP leaders," he said. He said this matter should be enquired into as how many authorised and how many unauthorized advertisments sites were there in Delhi as this was not only a violation of the election Code of Conduct, but was also related to corruption. Sharma in a letter to Chief Election Commissioner of Delhi Vijay Dev also demanded action against the BJP leaders for calling the pension beneficiaries to their party offices to distribute the pending pension and put pressure on them to vote for the BJP instead of distributing the pension directly through the MCD offices. |
