Wakf Board to get 123 properties back
New Delhi, March 5 Of the 123 properties, 61 were occupied by the Land and Building Office of the Urban Development Ministry and 62 by the Delhi Development Authority. In 1984 when the late Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi, had asked the government to hand over these properties to the Wakf Board, the VHP had filed a case and taken court stay order. But in 2011 the stay order was vacated and the court had asked the status of these properties, sources said. When the government had told the court that the Wakf Board had neither given compensation nor land in lieu of these properties, the court had asked the agencies concerned to hand over these properties to the actual owner, the sources said. The Central government today has withdrawn from the acquisition of the Wakf properties on two conditions - no compensation will be paid by the government or DDA or other government entities, cases pertaining to the said properties filed by the Delhi Wakf Board against the government or DDA pending in any court of law will be withdrawn first, a Home Ministry statement said. Most properties are in and around Connaught Place, Mathura Road, Lodhi Road, Man Singh Road, Pandara Road, Ashoka Road, Janpath, Parliament House, ITO, Karol Bagh, Sadar Bazar, Daryaganj and Jangpura in the national Capital. |
