Lid off driver murder case, friends held
New Delhi, November 17 The police said that on October 10, Satish Bajaj, a resident of Defence Colony, reported to the Hauz Qazi police station that his driver Ashok Kumar had taken the consignment in his delivery van from Peepal Mahadev Hauz Qazi to deliver it at Kalkaji near Okhla Industrial Area. But, he did not reach there till 6 pm. The complainant tried to contact the driver, but his mobile was found to be switched off. He made efforts at his own level to trace Ashok as well as the delivery van, but in vain. During investigation, it was revealed that Ashok had taken the consignment at 3 pm from Hauz Qazi Chowk and his mobile phone was switched off from 4.30 pm and since then he had been found missing. Technical surveillance was also mounted. On the basis of local criminal intelligence, it was learnt that Ashok's close friends Gopal and Vikas Jain could be involved in the case. They were brought to the police station and interrogated at length. There were several contradictions in their statements, which made the police suspicious about their conduct. On sustained interrogation, the accused confess to their involvement in the crime. Gopal said that he had been driving Jain's Maruti van for the past six months on a rent of Rs 12,000 per month. But as he had lost a lot of money to gambling, he could not pay the rent to Jain. Gopal and Jain then hatched a conspiracy to rob Ashok who used to ferry expensive items made of steel and aluminium from Chawari Bazar and Hauz Qazi. Gopal said that when Ashok, along with his delivery van, left Hauz Qazi for Kalkaji near Okhla Industrial Area, both the accused followed him in his Maruti van. When Ashok reached near Kilokari village, Maharani Bagh, Gopal overtook him and stopped his van. He asked Ashok that his van had developed some problem and he was in need of his help. On Gopal's request, Ashok came out of the delivery van. In the meantime, Jain brought a cold drink which contained sedative drugs and offered it to Ashok. After consuming it, Ashok became drowsy and fell down on the rear seat of the Maruti van. Thereafter, Gopal drove Ashok's delivery van, while Jain drove the Maruti van. Meanwhile, Gopal called his son Bittoo at Pushta No. 5, Bhajanpura, where he gave the van along with the consignment to him. Gopal and Jain, along with unconscious Ashok, went to Meerut in the Maruti van. There they strangled Kumar with the help of a nylon rope and dumped the body in an isolated place. |

The area has been divided into several divisions, and the respective division head will look into the complaints of eve teasing, loss of property, stampede, pickpocketing, etc," said DCP Mangesh Kashyap while addressing the media this evening. The Chief Managing Director of India Trade Promotion Organization, Rita Menon, added, "We have focused on decongestion of Mathura Road for which the commuters have to pay the price. We have shifted the protocol lounges for the VVIPS and foreign delegates to Bhairon Road, that will help diversify the traffic load. Also, arrangements have been made outside the premises right from the Metro station to ensure smooth entry into the maidan." The tickets to the fair will be available at all the Metro stations from Monday and can be purchased from customer care centres at all the Metro stations from 9 am to 4 pm. S. Africa pavilion visitors shy away from buying things
New Delhi, November 17 At one of the stalls were beautifully crafted baskets made of an African grass and fascinating dolls made of naturally dyed threads that witnessed many enthusiasts showing keen interest in the make of these hand-made artifacts, but the price at which they were offered seemed to be discouraging. "I want to promote the African Zulu baskets and dolls which are different owing to their knitting skills. Made of a grass called Ilala and natural dyes that add to their beauty, baskets have not got many buyers. The idea is to create items from things that are around in nature," said Maggie Dhladhla, the director of the marketing and business development of Sizimisele Development Trust, while sharing her experience during her first visit to India. Lindy T Metabane, CEO of the Tom Boya Skill Centre, which empowers mentally challenged people through training and employment, said that a lot of visitors are appreciating the design and the items on display but as of date no business has materialised. Herself a single mother of an epileptic child, she was here for the first time with the ceramic products made by such special people at the said centre and feels that visitors are not buying things because of their large size. There were many such first-timers who wanted to return with some business from India which is looked as a hub for exchange of trade, especially in the field of traditional handicrafts and artworks. The response as of date towards the South African show might not be successful from the business perspective but the promise of strengthening trade ties between India and South Africa looks to be working out. |

The government is forcing the concept of separate kitchens in a unified family. Meanwhile, Delhi BJP president Vijender Gupta inspected many Chhath Ghats prepared for the worship of Sun god today. He directed the BJP workers to start camps at the ghats in their areas and extend every possible help to the families coming for pooja. New Delhi, November 17 As locals indulged in violence protesting the murder near Karkardooma station, the Metro authorities did not run trains between Yamuna Bank and Vaishali between 4.15 pm and 6.20 pm, officials said.
