FDI to enrich Indian economy, says Dikshit
New Delhi, November 5 The mere announcement has started reaping better results; rupee has gained substantially in the international market, she said. Speaking at a seminar in V.P. Chest Institute, Delhi University, the Chief Minister said that certain elements are creating confusion by misleading people on the proposed FDI in retail market. It is time to dispel all the fears on this issue. Propaganda seems to be on and is being nurtured by the major opposition parties in the country. They are, in fact, adopting unusual manners to express their opposition to the issue. Being a vibrant democracy, India's economy is strong enough to negate any pressure of slowdown across the world. The country is growing at the higher rate than the European Union and the USA, she said. Dikshit stated that Delhi is the first state to come forward to implement the FDI in retail market. It is going to benefit the youth, farmers, traders and consumers. The FDI would create employment opportunities. Wastage of food items would be minimised substantially and consumers would be benefited by the stabilisation of prices. The country is looking forward to an era of better consumer protection ethics, she said. Dikshit added that her government is committed to protecting the rights of every individual and every section of society. |
Girl ends life in married friend’s house
New Delhi, November 5 The official said that no suicide note was recovered from the
spot. The victim, Ranjna, was believed to be pressuring her boyfriend to marry her, but he refused as he was
already married. Ranjna, a resident of Naraina in south Delhi, hanged herself with a ceiling fan at her
lover's rented accommodation in the same locality on Saturday evening, said a senior police official. "She was found hanging around 6 pm. Her boyfriend, Vikas Jain (25), saw her first after
he returned home from office in the evening," said the official. "Ranjna's family
members informed the police that she used to keep the key of Vikas's house. On the fateful day, she went to his house to give him lunch," said
the official. "Ranjna fell in love with Vikas, who works in a private company, a few months ago. She had been reportedly putting
pressure on Vikas to marry her," said the official. Vikas reportedly refused to marry her
as he was already married. It might be the reason behind her extreme step. The postmortem report is awaited and Vikas being questioned, the official added. |
‘DU biometric system, no solution to fix accountability’
New Delhi, November 5 To ensure that a methodical system is in place to fix accountability of teachers, resolve the issue of empty classrooms and keep a tab on teachers bunking lectures across 70 colleges and other affiliated institutions under the university, the Executive Council last weekend decided to empower the Vice-Chancellor to implement the biometric system. However, the move by the VC comes in at a time when the unhappiness of the teaching community is peaking with the Delhi University Teachers Association (DUTA) continuing its strike which has entered the 24th day today. "Back in 2000, the DUTA had prepared a detailed report recommending a host of reforms towards building a strong and transparent system in the university. Several ways in this regard were suggested and approved by the Academic Council in 2003. Since then, over the last nine years there has been no attempt by the university to work towards a holistic system of transparency and fixing accountability," said Nandita Narayan, faculty member, Stephens College. "A biometric system will not ensure if a teacher is in the class and teaching all the lectures as per the timetable. It is just a marker for the entry and the exit timing of the teachers. In such a case, what happens to the goal of fixing the problem of empty classrooms that the VC referred to in the EC meeting? Such tactics will achieve nothing but just demotivate teachers," Narayan added. |
Man poses as Cong leader’s nephew, cheats three
New Delhi, November 5 According to sources in the police department, the complainant, Vinod Pathak, a resident of Budh Vihar in Vijay Vihar, outer Delhi, approached the police after he realised that he, his cousin Narinder Bhardwaj and his friend Nathu Lal were cheated by the conman, Vijay Kumar Dwivedi, who hails from Amethi in Uttar Pradesh. Pathak said that his cousin Bhardwaj and friend Nathu gave him a reference of Vijay Kumar Dwivedi, who claimed to be the nephew of Congress leader Janardhan Dwivedi. "Nathu said that his shop, which was in Shakurpur and closed for many years, was reopened with the help of Vijay. We told Nathu that we also wish to reopen a shop which is in the name of Bharat Singh Babu Lal and is closed for many years," Pathak said. Nathu then introduced Vijay, who lived in rented accommodation at Sector 5 in Rohini, to Pathak and Bhardwaj. After the meeting, Vijay assured them that their work will be done and for that, he needs Rs 6 lakh. Pathak gave Rs 4.5 lakh as advance. He also paid Rs 3 lakh to Vijay for providing jobs to his two cousins as peon and clerk in Delhi Development Authority. However, Pathak and his cousin got suspicious soon when they tried to contact Vijay, but in vain. Soon they came to know that Vijay had gone to Mumbai. Pathak then approached the Economic Offence Wing of Delhi police and a case was registered against Vijay. |
