DJB to revamp Chandrawal plant with Japanese aid
New Delhi, October 27 The decision was taken in the board meeting of DJB chaired by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Friday. The DJB had undertaken a study to improve the water supply in Delhi with JICA's assistance. The reconstruction will be done to meet the projections made under the Master Plan 2021. Built in 1930, Chandrawal WTP is the oldest plant in Delhi. The project includes improvement of WTP, new transmission mains and distribution pipes, creation of district metering areas, etc. "The objective of the project is to achieve equitable and continuous water distribution in the area by improving the supply network. This project is important from the environmental point of view as it will reduce power consumption and distribution losses, thereby upgrading the living standard of people," said a senior DJB official. Focusing on the system to reduce the number of consumer complaints, the board gave approval to construct Consumer Care Centres at the DJB office in Greater Kailash-I and the Jal Sadan office complexes. The project is likely to be completed within 15 months. The Consumer Care Centres will have all the modern facilities and are proposed to be designed to facilitate redressal of complaints related to water, sewer and billing under one roof so that the consumer does not have to visit different offices to lodge separate complaints. Other projects approved by the board include improvement and revamping of the existing water supply, transmission and distribution network under the Nangloi WTP at a cost of Rs 652.32 crore. The board has also approved the operation and maintenance of the Haiderpur 16 MGD recycling plant at an estimated cost of Rs 18.62 crore for five years. |
