The city witnessed three murders reported from different places in the last 24 hours. In the first incident, a 25-year-old youth was stabbed to death by his elder brother. The victim has been identified as Mohammad Abdul.

Around 11.15 pm yesterday, Abdul arrived at his house and started abusing his mother Saira Bano. When despite repeated warnings from his elder brother, Irfan and younger brother Ibrahim, Abdul continued misbehaving with their mother, Irfan got angry and picked up a knife and stabbed Abdul in his stomach. He was rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors declared him dead.

Saira Bano and Abdul's two brothers had disowned him from their property and house few months ago due to his bad habits, the official said.

''Abdul was of the opinion that his mother was the main reason behind his sufferings and that was why he often used to misbehave with her," said the official.

In the second incident, a man allegedly stoned his wife to death when she refused to give him money to buy liquor, in Shahbad Dairy, outer Delhi.

The victim has been identified as Phoolwati, a resident of Holambi Kalan. "The accused husband, Devender, is a drunkard. He used to pick up argument over petty issues with his wife Phoolwati, who disliked his habit of consuming alcohol. In the wee hours today, Devender asked his wife to give him some money for purchasing liquor. When Phoolwati denied to give him money, a heated argument began between them. Then, in a fit of rage the accused picked up a brick and hit Phoolwati on her head many times. She suffered severe head injuries and collapsed on the floor," said a police official. The accused kept beating her with the brick in front of her two sons till her death. After sometime, when he realised the gravity of the incident, he approached the police and surrendered himself, the official said.

In the third incident, a 40-year-old woman was stabbed to death allegedly by her brother-in-law over personal disputes in Madhu Vihar, east Delhi, last night.

BJP MLA threatens to de-seal properties in Delhi Cant
Tribune News Service

New Delhi, November 1
The BJP MLA from Delhi Cantonment, Karan Singh Tanwar, today threatened the government that he would take law in his hands and would de-seal the properties that had been sealed by the officials of the Cantonment Board in civil areas if the authorities concerned did not accept people's demand to maintain the status quo of the properties belong to civilians.

''I have met the Delhi Defence Minister, appealing him not to demolish the properties as the people have been living in the area since 1914. A total number of five villages are located in the Cantonment area. But authorities concerned had not paid heed to my request," he said.

The MLA said that Chief Minister, Sheila Dikshit, had assured the people that not a single property would be sealed or demolish in the area. But, so far, 10 establishments have been sealed and two properties have been demolished. Singh said that the BJP had moved a resolution at the Cantonment Board meeting but it was rejected as it was not supported by the members of the Congress. The Congress plays double game. On one hand the Chief Minister assures to help the civilian population, on the other the Congress members had not supported the proposal that was moved to protect the sealing and demolition of the properties belonged to civilian population, he said. In protest against the indifferent attitude of the city government and the Cantonment Board authorities the civilian population will celebrate a black Divali this year, he added.

DWC chairperson seeks apology from Modi for remarks on Tharoor
Tribune News Service

New Delhi, November 1
The Delhi Women Commission, Barkha Shukla Singh, has condemned Gujarat Chief Minister Narender Modi's derogatory remarks about the wife of Union State HRD Minister Shashi Tharoor, Sunanda Pushkar and sought an apology from him for the same.

"The remarks against a woman of repute are most uncalled for, disgusting, highly condemnable and preposterous. This anti-women attitude of Modi clearly amounted to character assassination and outraging of the modesty of a woman," she said while addressing a press conference at DCW headquarters today.

She questioned him as to who has given him the authority or freedom or right to pass such undignified, unconstitutional and highly derogatory remarks against a woman of repute. In a democracy every women irrespective of her status has the fundamental constitutional right to lead her own life freely, as she wishes and issuance of such disparaging remarks like "50 crore girl friends", etc., straight away goes against the values of the Indian Constitution.
