Criminal gives police the slip: A hardened criminal allegedly escaped from the custody of the Rajasthan police on Thursday. The accused, Gurmeet Singh, was being brought from a Bikaner jail to Moga for an appearance before a court in a criminal case. He managed to give a slip to four constables when the Janta Express train, they were travelling in, reached near Kotkapura on Thursday morning. The constables have been booked. Moga
Passport scam: 2 more cops dismissed: The Punjab Police has terminated the services of Head Constables Gurdial Singh and Ranjit Singh, alleged kingpin of the Moga passport scam, after a court framed charges against them. Facing at least three criminal cases , they were suspended three years ago. Earlier, the services of Head Constable Jaswinder Pal Singh were terminated in May when he was arrested for the second time on charges of trying to obtain a US visa on forged documents.

NHRC notice to DGP on Dalit’s death: The National Human Rights Commission has sent notices to the Director-General of Police (DGP) and the District Magistrate, Kapurthala, to submit a report on media reports that a Dalit had been beaten to death over a trivial matter. The report is to be submitted within four weeks. Joginder Singh, a farmhand, was reportedly thrashed to death by Amrik Singh, son of agriculturist Balbir Singh, for collecting vegetables from their farm. The commission observed that the contents of media reports, if true, raised serious issues of human rights violation.
