Apart from the business opportunities that the fair brings along, this time around it is focusing on revenue-generating options of the participating states and also encouraging young people to pursue skill-based employment options.

Everything from textiles, pottery, art forms like paintings, embroidery, sculpting, tourism and retail is under focus at the state pavilions this time. Keeping in line with the theme of "Skilling India", FICCI in partnership with the India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO) today organised its first skill development seminar.

Over the next 14 days, similar seminars will be seen throughout the state pavilions at the fair which will culminate into a youth engagement workshop on November 27.

Beginning the streak of seminars today, representatives of the West Bengal government spelled out the plan for training nearly 60 lakh unemployed youth over the span of next 10 years.

Over the next few days, states like Bihar, Uttarakhand, Punjab and Odisha will also hold interactive session with the young people interested in specific skills.

"Every Indian state brings forth their ingenious skills to the fore at the fair. But to "skill India" in real sense, the industry has to come forward and create jobs and hunt for appropriate market for these art forms and skills. A lot of private enterprises are also expected to participate in our programmes, especially the workshop on the last day of the fair," said Prabhat Chandra Sharma, general manager, ITPO.

Tribune News Service

New Delhi, November 15
A man from Manipur was arrested at Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) here this morning for allegedly possessing 16 kgs of pseudo-ephedrine, a narcotic that can be converted into party drugs.

The tablets are worth Rs 72 lakh in the international market. The man who has been arrested is named C. Laltalnpuia (20). He allegedly was a student of Delhi University. At present, he lives with his wife at Janakpuri and is working at a call centre.

The seized tablets were to be smuggled into Myanmar. Sources said that in that country, the pseudo-ephedrine is extracted from the pills and converted into party drugs.

The Deputy Commandant of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Hemendra Singh said, "An agent gave him Rs 20,000 and tickets to Guwahati and back to Delhi. After reaching Guwahati, he was supposed to hand over the suitcase containing the pseudo-ephedrine tablets to another agent outside the airport."

CISF personnel suspected Laltalnpuia as he arrived at the Jet Airways check-in area in terminal-3 at about 11 am today. He was carrying a suitcase, which was later passed through an X-ray machine.

The image on the machine's monitor indicated a narcotic substance. CISF personnel manually checked the suitcase and found 16 kgs of the tablets. A test done through the narcotic substance kit indicated that the tablets were pseudo-ephedrine.

The IGIA customs officials were informed about the seizure. Thereafter, Laltalnpuia was taken into custody.

Recently, CISF personnel posted at IGIA have made three seizures of pseudo-ephedrine. On October 6, they made a seizure of 24 kgs of the drug. On October 22, CISF personnel caught a consignment of 60 kg of the same drug. And yesterday again, they seized 77.5 kgs of the drug.

In line with "Skilling India"-the theme of the 32nd India International Trade Fair (IITF) which celebrates both the country's traditional skills and modern innovations-the Haryana pavilion offers an array of examples promoting talent in the country.

The contributions of the young brains-Formula-1 car, "soccer robot" and aerodynamically designed "eco-car"--the three creations of students of Manav Rachna International University (MRIU) and Manav Rachna Innovation and Incubation Centre, Faridabad, are hard to ignore.

While this caught the mind of science enthusiasts and aspiring technocrats on the second day today at Pragati Maidan, several other displays, decorative and things of utility showcasing the ancient art of weaving, embroidery (Phulkari), lace work and folk motifs on terracotta forms and sculpture that Haryana is known for saw good response from the visitors.

"Our students have developed two such formula one cars, one was sponsored by Indian Oil Corporation's R&D and the second by Society of Automobile Engineers US company, Imperial Auto Industries, Faridabad and Maruti Suzuki. The first one won the innovation award (first prize) and the anti-skidding test (second prize) and the second too has made its mark," said project guide Dr B.S Gill, associate director of faculty of engineering and technology of Manav Rachna International University.

On display was also petrol-driven "eco-car" whose USP is efficiency covering a maximum distance in limited fuel besides being light weight (50 kg) and aerodynamically designed.

"This project assesses the designing and innovation capabilities of students. Our aim is to impart education and skill training to enable students learn and manufacture their innovations," added Gill.

Another innovation was a "soccer robot", developed by class VIII and IX students of Manav Rachna Innovation and Incubation Centre, which works with infrared rays, sensors and detectors. "The robot plays football as per the programming which involves calibration process," said Srikant Sharma and Chandra Bhushan, BTech students of the university.
