Gang war between two groups claims life

The ongoing gang war between two active groups of youth claimed one life in Patti last night. Sukhdev Singh (24) was shot dead near village Kairon, 18 km from here. The Patti police has registered a case under section 302, 148, 149 of the IPC, 25,54,59 Arms act, against five members of his opposite gang.

Bride commits suicide
Hoshiarpur, August 13
Frustrated by alleged torture of her in-laws family, a bride committed suicide at village Fattukalan, last night. Police sources said, Gurbachan Kaur, wife of Late Balwant Singh of Kapurthala said her daughter, Kuljit Kaur committed suicide following torturing and maltreating by her husband, Balwinder Singh; father-in-law, Jarnail Singh and mother-in-law, Pritam Kaur, all of Fattukalan.

1 killed in road accident
Tarn Taran, August 13
Jasbir Singh (40), a resident of village Naushehra Pannuan, died in a road accident yesterday, near village Usman, 8 km from here. A case under section 304A, 279 of the IPC has been registered by a local Sadar against Raj Sharma, driver of the vehicle who was responsible for the accident.

Talwara police last night had arrested a fake travel agent, Munish Kumar Sharma, son of Ramesh Lal Sharma (Hajipur), under Section 420 IPC for duping Rs 8 lakh in the name of sending his son to Canada.

Resentment prevails among the students seeking admission in BAMS course at various Ayurvedic Medical Colleges in Punjab, particularly, in Government Ayurvedic College, Patiala Parents stood up against the authorities of Guru Ravidas Ayurved University, Punjab for giving wrong information in the prospectus regarding availability of seats in the colleges.

“The university authorities had advertised 880 seats for 12 ayurvedic and four homeopathic colleges, including, 40 in Government Ayurvedic College, Patiala, for admissions in BHMS and BAMS courses and said they were affiliated to Guru Ravidas Ayurved University. But, during counselling, the authorities informed them that Central Council of Indian Medicine had discontinued affiliation of Government Ayurvedic College, Patiala, Shaheed Kartar Singh Sarabha Ayurvedic Medical College and Hospital, Ludhiana, Sri Satya Sai Murlidhar Ayurvedic College and Hospital, Moga and Saint Sahara Ayurvedic Medical College, Bathinda due to which the number of seats were reduced to 200 seats and there was no counselling for the seats available in any colleges,” said Ashok Kumar, father of a candidate.

The parents demanded action against the university officials because they had to face a lot of inconvenience.

PS Aulukh, deputy registrar, Guru Ravidas Ayurved University, Punjab, confirmed the disaffiliation of the above said colleges by the Central Council of Indian Medicine for various reasons, including, shortage of teaching staff. He clarified that teaching and non-teaching staff could only be appointed by the government in Ayurvedic College, Patiala.

Gang war between two groups claims life

The ongoing gang war between two active groups of youth claimed one life in Patti last night. Sukhdev Singh (24) was shot dead near village Kairon, 18 km from here. The Patti police has registered a case under section 302, 148, 149 of the IPC, 25,54,59 Arms act, against five members of his opposite gang.

The accused gang members have been identified as Sakattar Singh, Jaskaran Singh of Patti, Leedi, Sikandar and Manga of Tarn Taran.

DSP, Patti, Kuljit Singh said deceased Sukhdev was heading a Patti Gang while Sikandar was leading Tarn Taran gang. The Tarn taran gang was responsible for firing an incident in a college at Tarn Taran few days back, said Kuljit Singh.

Sukhdev alongwith his nine gang-members, armed with traditional weapons on four motor cycles, were on their target to hit the rival gang in Patti last night.

The associates of Sukhdev Singh managed to escape on their bikes but Sukhdev himself was captured by the rival gang. Sukhdev was severely beaten by the other gang members but later was shot. Sukhdev died on way to hospital. DSP Kuljit Singh said no accused have been arrested as yet though raids have been conducted at different places by the police-teams.

Bride commits suicide

Tanda police had booked all the accused under Section 306 of the IPC sunday night. Police had arrested Pritam Kaur and were actively searching for both father and son.

Sources said, the deceased Jasbir Singh was on his motor cycle bearing number PB- 46H, 8349 when he was hit by a canter Swaraj Mazda No. PB-08, BZ, 8840 from the front. He died on the spot.

Talwara police last night had arrested a fake travel agent, Munish Kumar Sharma, son of Ramesh Lal Sharma (Hajipur), under Section 420 IPC for duping Rs 8 lakh in the name of sending his son to Canada.

Police sources said, Joginder Singh, son of Labh Singh (Talwara) had lodged a complaint against Munish Kumar Sharma who took Rs 8 lakh for sending his son to Canada but neither did Munish Kumar send his son to Canada nor did he returned his money. — TNS
