One held for aged woman’s murder

With the arrest of a person, the district police has claimed to have solved a blind murder case of an aged woman, identified as Shanti Devi of Jaijon. She was found murdered at her residence on August 6. The police today arrested Jatinder Sharma of Jaijon village under Section 302 of the IPC. Chabbewal DSP Harjinder Singh said the body of Shanti Devi (80), who was living alone at her house, was found in a pool of blood at her residence on the night of August 6. Marks of injuries were found on her head, forehead.

Arrest of retired ASI sought

Members of the Pardeep Katal Kand Action Committee (PKKAC) staged a dharna at the office of the SSP here today and demanded the early arrest of an accused ASI, Harbhajan Singh  (now retired). Gurbhej Singh Namdhari , member of the committee, said non-bailable warrants were issued by a judicial court against the Harbhajan Singh more than two months back, but the police was not arresting the accused.

On the statements of Bamdev Sharma of the same village and sarpanch Parveen Kumar Sandhu, the Chabbewal police had registered a case.

Bamdev Sharma alleged that Bishnu Priya of the village used to cook meal for Shanti Devi. Bishnu Priya came to her house and told that Shanti Devi's house was locked from outside. Bamdev Sharma along with the sarpanch and Bishnu Priya went to the house of Shanti Devi and opened the door of the house and found the body of Shanti Devi lying in a pool of blood.

During interrogation, Jatinder admitted that he murdered Shanti Devi to loot her gold ornaments. After murdering her, he decamped with her gold earrings, finger gold ring and a neck gold locket.

Pardeep Singh (15), student of Class IX and resident of Khawaspur village, 20 km from here, died in the police custody about 11 years back at the Jamarai police post. ASI Harbhajan Singh had allegedly tortured him to death. Sukhbir Singh, SHO (City) assured the members of the committee that the accused would be arrested soon. — OC
