Jalandhar, July 30
The city-based Rural Development and Self-Employment Training Institute (R-SETI), run by the Central Government, has brought laurels for the district as it has been honoured for having trained as many as 4,676 youths in job-oriented courses free of cost and for making them financially self-reliant.

The award for the achievement of the centre and the certificate of excellence was presented by Union Minister Jai Ram Ramesh to Jalandhar Additional Deputy Commissioner-cum-Project Director Parneet Bhardwaj and the R-SETI Jalandhar’s Director VM Nayyar at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi on Saturday.

“Since its inception in Jalandhar in 2000, the R-SETI has trained as many as 4,674 young people, of which 2,437 were women. As many as 2,960 young people have already set up their own units with the help of the centre. They are financially self-reliant now,” said Bhardwaj, adding that the motive of the centre was to convert the youth force into productive asset for the country.

“The award has been given for good job done by the centre during 2011-12. The services of the centre towards the society have been recognised by the Central Government by according it the A-plus grade,” said Bhardwaj.

There were nearly 700 such centres in the country with each district having a minimum of one such centre.
