Jalandhar, July 29
The functioning of the Punjab Police has came under scanner, with a Ludhiana resident reportedly exposing an Amritsar-based widow of a police personnel for managing to get a government job for her one son on fake documents.

The fraud was exposed by a Raikot (in Ludhiana) resident when the woman submitted documents before the Punjab Police, seeking job in the police department for her third son with a fake affidavit.

Following this, Varinder Kumar of Raikot sought information under the Right to Information (RTI) Act from the department and the information raised many eyebrows.

Accompanied by an ex-serviceman, Gurjit Singh of Rama Mandi, Jalandhar, Varinder Kumar, while addressing mediapersons here today, also provided copies of the documents, including fake affidavits by the woman, to the media. He claimed to have complained to the Chief Minister, DGP, Punjab, DIG Vigilance Bureau, Police Commissioner, Amritsar and Punjab State Human Rights Commission, on this issue.

He alleged that Joginder Kaur, a resident of Putli Ghar in Amritsar, after the death of her husband Swaran Singh, a constable who died on duty in 1982, got job of a constable, in the Punjab Police, for her first son Manjit Singh on compassionate grounds.

She subsequently submitted another affidavit (furnishing wrong and false information) in June 1993 and managed to get the job of a constable for her second son, Paramjit Singh.

In an attempt to mislead the authorities for the second time, the woman yet again submitted a fake affidavit before the police department, seeking job for her third son on compassionate grounds, alleged Varinder Kumar.

The duo has demanded stringent action against the woman and her sons for misleading the government, causing financial loss to the state exchequer and misconduct. Meanwhile, the CIA staff of the Amritsar police recorded the complainant's statement a few days ago.

Amit Sharma, in charge of the CIA Staff, said the case was under investigation and the police was verifying the documents. Action would be taken as per the law against the persons if found guilty, he added.
