12-yr-old found hanging at house
Hoshiarpur, July 22
Munish Kumar (12), son of Kulwinder Singh, was found hanging from the ceiling girder at his house in Kot Fatuhi village on Friday evening. According to police sources, Munish Kumar returned from Anandpur Sahib on July 20.

Five suicide cases reported

Balwinder Kaur reportedly committed suicide by consuming some poisonous substance at nearby Sahni village yesterday. Stress was said to be the cause behind her death. She was a mother of three daughters.

Woman set ablaze

A married woman, Priya (32), wife of Vipin Kumar, a resident of the local DSP Wali Gali, was allegedly set ablaze by her mother-in-law and brother-in-law here late last evening.

Cyclist crushed to death

Kuldeep Singh (30), a resident of Kot Mohammad Khan village, 20 km from here, was crushed to death by an unidentified Tata Sumo near his village late last evening. A case under Sections 279, 304-A, 427 of the IPC has been registered against the vehicle driver

Residents complain of polluted drinking water

Residents of New Adarsh Nagar have been reportedly getting supply of polluted drinking water. “The piped water is not fit for drinking. It is blackish in colour and emits foul smell too,” alleged the residents while lamenting that it would again lead to a outbreak of some water-borne disease.

12-yr-old found hanging at house

Hoshiarpur, July 22
Munish Kumar (12), son of Kulwinder Singh, was found hanging from the ceiling girder at his house in Kot Fatuhi village on Friday evening. According to police sources, Munish Kumar returned from Anandpur Sahib on July 20. After his return, Munish Kumar's mother Daljit Kaurm, along with her husband Kulwinder Singh, went to market for purchasing clothes. When they returned, they found Munish Kumar hanging from the ceiling girder of the room.

The police initiated proceedings under Section 174 of the Cr PC. Later, Daljit Kaur suspected that her mother-in-law Gurdial Kaur, wife of Sarna Ram of the same village, had murdered her son. On her statement, the Mehtiana police has booked Gurdial Kaur under Sections 302 of the IPC.

The SHO of the Mehtiana police station said there was some family dispute between Gurdial Kaur and her daughter-in-law Daljit Kaur.

Five suicide cases reported

Phagwara, July 22
Balwinder Kaur reportedly committed suicide by consuming some poisonous substance at nearby Sahni village yesterday. Stress was said to be the cause behind her death. She was a mother of three daughters.

In another case, a villager, identified as Gurmeij Singh, died after taking a heavy dose of an intoxicant-mixed medicine at Rihana-Jattan village on Saturday.

In the third mishap, Surjit singh of Tawandi village was killed on the spot when a speeding vehicle hit him near Jagjitpur village on the Phagwara-Hoshiarpur road yesterday. The vehicle driver managed to flee after the accident. The police has registered a case.

In the fourth incident, a teenaged boy, identified as Manish (12), reportedly committed suicide by hanging himself with the ceiling of his room at nearby Kot-Fatuhi village last evening. The boy was studying in VIIth standard and had returned to his home after watching a rural mela. The cause of the suicide could not be ascertained yet.

In the fifth incident, a middle-aged man, identified as Jai Ram, reportedly committed suicide by hanging himself with a rope in his house in nearby Atta village last night. The deceased was working as a painter and was in deep mental stress, the police said.

In the sixth incident, a teenaged girl reportedly committed suicide by jumping over from the roof of her house in nearby Kandolan-Kalan last night. Stress was said to be the cause of the suicide, the police said.

The bodies were handed over to the respective families after conducting post-mortem examinations.

Woman set ablaze

A married woman, Priya (32), wife of Vipin Kumar, a resident of the local DSP Wali Gali, was allegedly set ablaze by her mother-in-law and brother-in-law here late last evening.

Priya was admitted to Guru Nanak Hospital, Amritsar, from where she was later shifted to a private hospital.

Some property dispute was said to be the reason behind the incident.

Priya received 50 pc burn injuries. The city police has registered a case in this regard. The accused have been identified as Ramma and Amit, who were said to be absconding.

Kuldeep Singh (30), a resident of Kot Mohammad Khan village, 20 km from here, was crushed to death by an unidentified Tata Sumo near his village late last evening. A case under Sections 279, 304-A, 427 of the IPC has been registered against the vehicle driver.

Kuldeep Singh was coming back to his village on his bicycle from Chohla Sahib. When he reached near Mohanpur village, an unidentified Tata Sumo hit him from back. Kuldeep received serious injuries and died on the spot. — OC

Residents complain of polluted drinking water

Residents of New Adarsh Nagar have been reportedly getting supply of polluted drinking water. “The piped water is not fit for drinking. It is blackish in colour and emits foul smell too,” alleged the residents while lamenting that it would again lead to a outbreak of some water-borne disease.

Few months ago, the town has witnessed spread of jaundice in various localities allegedlly due to supply of contaminated piped water. After a lot of hue and cry, the district administration had taken steps to solve the problem. It launched a drive to clean choked sewerage pipes, repair leakage of sewerage and drinking water pipes. — OC
