Nawanshahr, July 10
The Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS) Polyclinic, launched in November last to provide healthcare facilities to ex-servicemen and their dependents in the district, has reportedly failed to live up to the expectations of the people for want of proper infrastructural facilities, adequate staff and supply of medicines.
Lt Col Jernail Singh, president of the district unit of the Ex-Servicemen Cell (PPCC), alleged that ex-servicemen of the district had welcomed the launch of the polyclinic here and hoped that they would not have to go to Jalandhar, Hoshiarpur or Chandigarh for healthcare facilities.
“But the polyclinic lacks infrastructural facilities, including dental chair, analyser, X-ray machine, refrigerator and ambulance; and there is dearth of medical specialist, doctors and dentist. Because of these reasons, the dream of ex-servicemen to get best healthcare facilities at their doorstep was yet to be realised in true spirit.”
“Earlier, an Officer In Command (OIC), two doctors, laboratory technician, radiographer and other supporting staff were deputed at the ECHS Polyclinic. But now, the two doctors have left the job and the authorities have failed to make alternative arrangements.” said Jernail Singh.
