Jalandhar, June 30
The Punjab Armed Police (PAP) inaugurated a state-of-the-art weightlifting centre for its players. Earlier, players used to practice at the weightlifting centre at Ramgarhia College in Phagwara. The PAP centre has been set up at a cost of Rs 25 lakh and it is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and facilities as available at National Institute of Sports (NIS), Patiala. Female weightlifters said every morning they had to travel an extra mile to Phagwara for training, but now they would get all the facilities at PAP. “It will not only consume less time, but also help us in our training”, the players added. Talking to Jalandhar Tribune, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), PAP, Sukhdev Singh Sahota said, “We are glad to have fulfilled a long-pending requirement of the weightlifters. Now the players would get world-class training facilities at PAP itself. Further, our trained coaches coupled with excellent sports equipment and ambience would ensure that the players excel in the national and international sports events”.  The ADGP added that recently they have set up a highly modernised and world-class gymnasium at the PAP campus as well.
