Jalandhar, July 4 The chairman of the recruitment board-cum-Deputy Commissioner of Police Sarabjeet Singh said the interviews will commence from 7 am on July 9. He said the candidates after clearing the physical test (between roll numbers 1 to 1,800) would have to appear for the interview on July 9. The roll numbers 1,801 to 3,500 will be interviewed on July 10. The interview date of candidates having roll numbers 3,501 to 5,800 has been set on July 11 and candidates having roll numbers from 5,801 to 7,425 and candidates from ex-serviceman category will appear for interview on July 12. The DCP said the candidates must bring their original certificates regarding educational qualifications along with the admission cards at the time of interview. The state government had advertised for these posts in the Jalandhar Police Commissionerate in 2011. The list of candidates who had cleared the physical tests was released and the schedule of their interview was advertised, added the DCP. The government had to postpone the interviews due to the implementation of the model code of conduct in view of the Assembly elections in Punjab. |

College principal attacked after denying admission
Phagwara, July 4 The accused attacked as his sister was denied admission in the college by the principal. College Director ML Kaura said, Veena Sharma came to principal’s office to get her daughter admitted in BA-I. However, the principal refused admission stating that her son Gagan creates nuisance in the college. Veena Sharma then called her son Gagan, who arrived in the office and attacked Tulna with a sharp-edged weapon and ransacked the office. The Satnampura police has registered a case under Sections 452,323,355,357 and 34 of the IPC against the accused, but no arrest has been made so for. Tulna was admitted to the local Civil Hospital. –– OC |

NRI shot dead
Phagwara, July 4 Sarwan Kumar, father of the deceased, said Sham Lal was in money-lending business. He was returning to home after on a bike when two armed assailants stopped him and opened fire at him. The deceased is survived by wife, two daughters and a son. Many Punjabis have been killed in Philippines in the past few years.
