FCI employees stage dharna, 12 depots remain closed

Three arrested in vendor murder case
Nawanshahr, November 9
The police has succeeded in solving the blind murder case of a vegetable vendor, Bant Ram, of Mangatan village. They have arrested three accused, namely Satpal, alias Ghona, Sandeep Lal, alias Neela and Sandeep Ram, alias Deepa.

A 19-year-old student, Harindra Singh, of Panjab University Regional Centre, Bajwara, succumbed to his injuries on the way to DMC, Ludhiana, near Phagwara last night. Harindra Singh along with his friends went to Rayat Engineering College to participate in a function in a four-wheeler tempo yesterday.

FCI employees stage dharna, 12 depots remain closed
Staff plan larger strike on November 17 and 18

The employees of the Food Corporation of India under the banners of Trade Union Bhartiya Khadya Nigam Karamchari Sangh, National Committee, FCI Executive Staff Union and Central Committee Class IV Union today observed strike in front of the FCI office here today in support of their demands.

All the 12 depots of
FCI, Amritsar, namely Bhagtanwala, Bharariwal, Bhikhiwind, Chabhal, Majitha, Mehta, N Pannuwan, Vallah, Tarn
Taran, Patti, Rayya and Jandiala, remained closed today and observed strike in the main gate of
their respective depots
or offices.

Kamal Thakur, District Secretary of the Sangh, said their demands included pay percentage based allowances or perks to Catagory III and IV
at par with Cat I and II employees under ‘Cafeteria’ approach, sanction additional staff against enhanced work load, evolve norms for storage and rail transit loses,
stop harassment of field staff on account of alleged abnormal losses, appoint transit courier or insurance agencies to stop 24
hours loading and unloading of food grains in
jumbo rakes, immediate implementation of new pension scheme wef
January 1, 2007 and modified assured career progression scheme.

Thakur also said the there will be country wide strike at all work places of FCI on November 17 and 18.

Three arrested in vendor murder case

Nawanshahr, November 9
The police has succeeded in solving the blind murder case of a vegetable vendor, Bant Ram, of Mangatan village. They have arrested three accused, namely Satpal, alias Ghona, Sandeep Lal, alias Neela and Sandeep Ram, alias Deepa.

The police has also recovered a sharp-edged weapon used by the accused while committing the crime.

Dr Narinder Bhargav, SSP, said Bant Ram was thrown in a field behind his house after injuring him in the morning of October 31. He as later taken to the hospital here he breathed his last.

"During the investigation, it came to light that Bant Ram had been passing cheap comments on the character of his co-worker’s wife. Sat Pal, co-worker, was upset over this issue. He in connivance with Sandeep Lal and Sandeep Ram attacked Bant Ram. The accused had confessed to the crime," added Bhargav.

On October 31 Bant Ram’s family members became worried when he didn’t return and started searching for him. They ultimately found him lying blood soaked in the field. He was taken to DMC, Ludhiana, where he succumbed to his injuries.

A case was registered under Sections 302 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Behram police station against unidentified persons on the basis of the complaint lodged by Balbir Ram, deceased’s brother, and an investigating team comprising DSP Jagvinder Singh Cheema, Banga, SHO Shahbaz Singh, Behram and SHO Rajbinder Singh, Banga.

Teenaged girl raped, 1 booked

Krishan Kumar Prince (20) resident of Mallha village, 20 km from here, has been booked under Section 363,366A,376 and 120B of the IPC for raping a teenaged girl after abducting her from the village.

The victim’s father alleged that Tripta Devgan, the accused’s mother, two days back brought his daughter to her house to help in domestic work.
The accused brought his daughter to Amritsar where he raped her regular for three days. The accused yesterday came to the village and send his daughter to their home denying to marry her. The accused is absconding.

Prisoner escapes

Nawanshahr: Roshan Lal, an accused in murder case, has allegedly fled from the main gate of the District Administrative Complex situated on Chandigarh road when he was brought here for his court appearance on Wednesday. Roshan Lal, a resident of ward No 11, Balachaur, was arrested in August last year under Section 302 and was jailed in Ropar. While a case under Section 223 of the IPC has been registered against him, a case under Section 224 of the IPC has also been registered against the three head constables Telu Ram, Pawan Kumar and Pal Singh at the city police station.

Vehicle recovered

Shahkot: The Malsian police today recovered a vehicle, which rammed into a tree on Malsian-Nakodar road. The vehicle was later found to be stolen from the Choti Baradari locality in Jalandhar.

After stealing the vehicle, the thief was heading toward Shahkot. As he reached near Malsian he lost control over the car and rammed it into a tree.The police after reaching the spot, checked the registration papers and called the owner of the vehicle.

Rajinder Singh, owner of the vehicle, said his car was stolen from his house today and he had already lodged a complaint to the Jalandhar police in this regard.

Four die in road mishaps

Hoshiarpur, November 9
A 19-year-old student, Harindra Singh, of Panjab University Regional Centre, Bajwara, succumbed to his injuries on the way to DMC, Ludhiana, near Phagwara last night. Harindra Singh along with his friends went to Rayat Engineering College to participate in a function in a four-wheeler tempo yesterday.

Harindra Singh was sitting on the roof top of the four wheeler. When they reached a toll-plaza at Nangal Shaheedan barrier, the driver lost control of the vehicle and it rammed into the barricade due to which Harindra Singh fell down on the road. He was admitted to the local Civil Hospital from where he was referred to DMC, Ludhiana.

Phagwara: A driver of a tempo, identified as Gurpal Singh (42), of nearby Loharan village died on the spot when a speeding truck hit the tempo near Sugar Mills chowk here today. The police has impounded the truck and arrested the truck driver, said SHO Sarwan Singh Bal. The body was sent to the local Civil Hospital for postmortem examination.

Tarn Taran: Two motorcyclists died in a road accident near Sabhra village, 35 km from here, yesterday when their motorcycle was hit by a tractor.

The Patti police has registered a case under Section 304A, 427 and 279 of the IPC against the unidentified driver.

The deceased have been identified as Gursahib Singh (38) and Harmesh Singh (40) residents of village Valtoha, 45 km from here. Gursahib and Harmesh were on their TVS motorcycle (No PB02, 5904). Both received serious injuries and died on way to the hospital.
