Jalandhar, November 4
The Jalandhar (Rural) police has solved the murder case of a Lohian resident with the arrest of his wife and her paramour.

Daljit Singh aka Kala had gone missing under mysterious circumstances on September 17 night. Alleged illicit relations of his wife Sunita Devi with Gurjit Singh, alias Sonu, a manager of their business establishment - Swaran Palace - is believed to be the reason behind the murder.

Talking to The Tribune, Hardial Singh Mann, SSP, said Sunita’s relations with her husband Daljit Singh were not cordial for quite some time. The duo had even sought divorce some time ago, but the issue was resolved by the village panchayat, the SSP added. The SSP said a team of the CIA staff cracked the murder following a tip-off and arrested Sunita Devi and her paramour Gurjit Singh when they were spotted at Manak bus stand near Sultanpur Lodhi.

Mann revealed that Bahadur Singh, an uncle of the deceased, had lodged a complaint with the police on September 19 that Daljit, who went to join his wife at the palace on September 17 night, had gone missing. During interrogation, the SSP said, Sunita revealed that she served sedatives to Daljit when he joined her at the palace. Gurjit had arranged the sedatives, he said.

The duo also admitted that after Daljit fell unconscious, they suffocated him to death with a pillow, bundled the body in a bed sheet, and dumped it into the Harike-Rajasthan canal in Ferozepur, the SSP said. They used a Tavera SUV (HR-018-2960) for transporting the body to the canal. The duo had identified the spot when they had been to meet Sunita’s sister at her in-laws’ house in Ferozepur. A case under Sections 302, 201 and 34 of the IPC has been registered against the duo at the Lohian police station.

Pathankot, November 4
Theft and chain snatching cases are on rise in the city. Despite strenuous efforts made by the police to control crime in the newly incorporated district of Pathankot, the criminals are not leaving any chance to strike again and again.

More than a dozen incidents of theft and chain snatching took place in the past two month. Two shops at the sub-divisional town of Dhar Kalan were burgled late at Wednesday night. The thieves looted valuables and took away cash from the shops.

In another incident, the thieves struck at a garments showroom near Arya senior Secondary School situated on Dalhousie road and decamped with goods worth Rs 5 lakh. Another case of robbery was reported by an AB College professor. It is said that the thieves entered the house of the professor and looted cash and gold ornaments worth Rs 3 lakh.

Two chain snatching incidents were reported in the areas of Mission road and Patel Chowk. These incidents have left people insecured. The SSP, SK Kalia, said today that the culprits would be nabbed soon. He said strict and foolproof security arrangements would be made to check crime.

He did not rule out the possibility of involvement of interstate gangs rendering assistance to the local miscreants and culprits indulged in petty crimes. He said the drive against the drug peddlers and poppy husk suppliers launched by the Sujanpur police had yielded good results. Night patrolling and security in sensitive areas of the district would be beefed, he added.
