Make paramilitary forces accountable, says Valley professor
Jalandhar, September 2 Initiating the discussion, Chander Mohan, Editor, Vir Pratap, said before talking about issues like propagation of education, trade and commerce, and freedom of ideas, it was important to restore peace in Kashmir. “It is an irony that on one side, separatist leaders mislead the local populace by forcing them not to send their children to schools and colleges, on the other hand, they seek help from the Indian government to send their children to Malaysia and the USA for higher education,” he said. Highlighting the rampant corruption in the troubled state, former Editor of Dainik Tribune Ashok Sharma said though the Central Government released a grant of Rs 1,00,000 crore for Kashmir, due to the prevalent corruption in the system, the grant did not reach the people which eventually led to unemployment and compromised development. Irwin Khanna, Editor, Uttam Hindu, said it was important to strengthen the bonds of cordiality between different communities in the state. Prof Javed Ahmed Khan, who hails from Kashmir, said the people of Kashmir did not want to sever ties with India. “People want that the Army and paramilitary forces should be made accountable and atrocities committed on the local population stopped,” said Javed. Youths, who threw stones, only want employment, he added. He said incompetent political leadership was ruling the state. |

Nagar, Shukarpura and Faizpura areas were left with no option but to take to the ROB for every other thing. Even schoolchildren would have to go through this ordeal daily.
