Jalandhar: LIC Day was celebrated at the sales training centre, LIC, Model Town, here on Wednesday. Nigam geet was played followed by administration of corporate oath by M.P. Singh, principal of the centre. He said that the sales training centre was started in May 2009 and since then had imparted training to 2,758 field officers of Jalandhar, Amritsar, Ludhiana and Srinagar. Meanwhile, Senior Divisional Manager Girish Kumar said an LIC week would be celebrated from September 1 during which customer desk would be set up in all branches. Radio contest: Radio Mantra has shortlisted 20 persons, one of which would become the next voice of Jalandhar. Out of 5,000 entries received, the majority is of youngsters from various colleges of the city. The contestants were marked on spontaneity, pronunciation & diction, wit, sense of humour, overall personality and general knowledge. The countdown has begun and two eliminations will be done daily based on a new task every day till we have the top eight aspirants and the grand finale is on September 19, said Lakhwinder Singh, cluster head of the outfit. Kapurthala Scribe dies: Senior journalist Raghunath Sahai Sharma (84) died after brief illness at his residence here on Thursday. He worked with Punjab Kesari for more than five decades and was known for his bold reporting. His cremation was attended by local scribes, politicians and residents.
