Man’s illicit relationship leads son to kill self
Tarn Taran, August 29 It is learnt that Jeewanjot took the extreme step due to mental and physical harassment by his father and his beloved. Rajwant had forcibly ousted his wife Kanwaljit Kaur about five years back and developed illicit relations with Prabhdeep Kaur, who was the principal of a public school owned by Rajwant at the border town of Hoshiarnagar (near Gharinda). He had been living with Prabhdeep at Chhehtra township near Amritsar after closing his business at Balachak. Jeewanjot, who used to go there, objected to the illicit relations of his father. Rajwant had forbidden his son to meet his mother Kanwaljit Kaur, who had been living with her parents in Chhapa village. Late last evening, Jeewanjot was thrashed by Rajwant and Prabhdeep after he had gone to Chhehtra. After returning to Balachak village with his uncle and aunt, he consumed some poisonous substance. Soon after, he told the whole story to his mother. She immediately informed her relatives over telephone in Balachak, who brought Jeewanjot to a private hospital, where he died. The post-mortem examination of the body was conducted at the local civil hospital. SSP Preetpal Singh Virk said police parties had been dispatched to arrest the accused. |

Terming the act of the Dalit community as their democratic aspiration, he said justice loving people should support them. Sardara Mahal, another senior leader of the party, said the seeds of such crises were sown in the development model of Punjab. He said stagnation of agriculture-based rural economy and rapid de-industrialisation in urban areas were the causes of such outbursts, which manifest themselves in one form or another. Kalia’s Outburst
Phagwara, August 29 After Congress MLA from Bholath Sukhpal Singh Khaira, it’s now former Congress minister Santokh Singh Chaudhary who has joined the bandwagon to propose the BJP on what it should do in this ‘crisis’ hour. Chaudhary, while talking to newsmen here yesterday, said the false claims of strong alliance between the SAD and BJP have again surfaced in the open. He said no party, including the BJP, could tolerate the dictatorial policies of the Badal family. Hence, according to the Congress leader, the “suffocated” BJP should come out of the state Cabinet to save its self respect. Two days ago, Khaira and former minister Joginder Singh Maan, urged the BJP to withdraw its support to the government. They asked Kalia to immediately quit from his post to express his anger instead of just going public. They said if the Badal family can indulge in blatant nepotism and favoritism at the cost of its alliance partner, one can imagine the plight of other elected representatives of the state. They said Kalia had also alleged that all important development projects from thermal plants to educational and health projects have gone to the constituencies of the Badal family leaving the ordinary Punjabi in lurch. The Congress leaders also challenged the Badals to dissolve the present assembly and go in for fresh elections in Punjab to test its political strength. |
